Just before 9:30 p.m., a barn was reported fully engulfed in fire. Multiple agencies responded to the scene.

According to one person speaking over the scanner, the vegetation around the building was on fire after several explosions.

“Do I need to start evacuating?” asked one firefighter over the scanner.

At 9:45 p.m., Loleta Fire is requested and Ferndale Fire is requested to stage at Fernbridge.

One reader, Kathryn Tikkanen, said the fire occurred on the first road just south of the Van Duzen River on East side of 101.  She told us, “We heard 2 big booms and immediately saw the orange glow from our house in north Fortuna.”

UPDATE 10:15 p.m.: A reader tells us, “[The] smoke is less dense and not reaching nearly as high in the sky. Glow from fire is faint. Good thing it has rained.”

It’s good to hear that no one was hurt. But still a stressful loss in terms of livelihoods. I hope it’s soon back on track.

It’s unfortunate that we live in a world where such thoughts are often confirmed. There is no need using such insulting terms because those assumptions were wrong.

That would be my Sister and Brother In Laws barn up in the ridges. They have multiple homes and barns up there. Leland is a Logger and has had his own Logging Business (along with his Brother, now deceased, Lyle) for many, many years. Glad that they are ok and can find out just what happened. Stay safe Family.
