Regulator to Cultivator: Keeping an Open Dialogue
State agencies, cultivators and industry stakeholders all have an investment in today’s cannabis market. Keeping the lines of communication open during California’s historic transition to a regulated commercial cannabis market is crucial. While a regulated market offers many new and exciting opportunities for California’s cannabis industry, there are also many challenges to work through by engaging in conversations and receiving feedback from each other.Saturday, Dec. 14 from 1:00 p.m. – 1:45 p.m.
Environmentally Friendly Cannabis: What Industry Experts Have to Say
With the passage of Proposition 64, thousands of new cultivators are entering the regulated cannabis market. Many are unaware that seemingly harmless farming activities can have big impacts to the environment. Hah !! What a joke !!!
Em cup sucks
Such a sell out event just a straight up cash grab
Was thinking of going…. this made up my mind not too.
Emerald cup does not at all embody what the spirit of cannabis was truly about.
Cannabis is a plant. It’s not “about” anything except surviving and reproducing.
Just a bunch of wannabe breeders that have shaken pollen sacks for 8 years and consider themselves breeders an then sell there seeds for 10bucks a bean. Crock if crap. Black market lives on.
The whole permitting situation in Humboldt is a joke and nothing but a protection racket the county is running. I have neighbors that do not have a state permit, do not follow any regulations, still suck water from creek, have not sold 1 single gram on the legal market and has used words like “the county doesn’t enforce anything” when asked why they still suck water from a creek and yes, they not only grew 2 lightdeps and a full term, they expanded operations. The county just watched people grow illegally without a state permit and they did NOTHING about it. The county seems to be all bark and no bite. At this point I might just file an application and blow it up like everybody else. Seriously, if you have property and stopped growing in fear of an abatement, just file an application under 2.0 and you will get the green light to keep on growing. Humboldt needs to get their permit holders in compliance before sending out more abatement letters. The county really is acting like mob bosses giving protection to this who pay, but not necessarily by the rules. We all have choices to make and I chose to follow the rules, but I have just changed my mind. Application getting filed ASAP and 2020 will be a year for the history books. I’ll make all of my money in one year and then bail on the permit. THANK YOU Humboldt for this opportunity.
While Im on my soap box, if I here another operation talk about taxes, I’m going to puke. The taxes are not whats killing you. Whats killing you is the fact you are not clearing as much profit as you are used to. Sorry you don’t get to take as many trips or buy as much shit as you have come accustomed to, but this is the new era.
You are right about that. I remember hashing it out with you years ago about the permit process, and now it seems like we are in agreement. I didn’t see it becoming as much as a blatant protection racket as it has become. I was thinking the county would take people info and their money and then strictly enforce the legal market, and all the idiot gro-bro’s would get busted for cheating the system. I was wrong! They are totally safe as long as they pay the county. The black market is flooded with what should be legal market weed. I didn’t see that coming.
Ah yes. Thank you for pumping up the black market prices for us “illegals “ by dumping all your B grade white market swag on the black market. The black market will NEVER die at this rate. Keep it coming!
The Permitted “Farm” near me looks like a tweeker hang out. Trash, totes, netting, sheets of plastic, lumber, pallets, shredded tents and flotsam strewn around. There are people there. I guess they just step over it . Where is the county and their big bad real-time satellite? Do they even care?
Yes, I’ll say it a million times ; oversight by the county is abysmal, but hey, make some hippies tear down their 40 year old greenhouse.
Perspective, you might want to get that puke bucket handy.. Cause, it’s definitely partly the large amount of overburdenous Taxes killing the legal industry! Especially that $9 per ounce tax! That is horrendous! I am not against a reasonable rate of taxes.. but a Trimmer makes about $10 an ounce. A trim bill is often fairly substantial. Why should the gov make as much as a Trimmer for doing absolutely nothing? Actually these days, that can be more than a trimmer makes per ounce! It’s absurd and arbitrary! Yes voted in I know.. but the market is in Flux! I can almost understand the square ft tax Slightly, but per ounce? Just for “cultivation” NO! Just NO! That taxes need to go!
Those Taxes are too Damn High!
On top of all the other over burdenous red tape associated. It’s a deal killer.
But agree that the permitting scheme is a joke! 💯
I whole heartedly feel the taxes are way too much and seem down right illegal. However, thats not the reason some growers aren’t making it in the new market. They are using taxes as an excuse for why their B grade outdoor isn’t selling at the prices they want or why the bottom dollar isn’t he same as it used to be. These taxes are bullshit, but not the cause of some farms failing.
Actually it’s more about people from other states thinking they should only pay local prices. Send them home empty handed and let them start growing it themselves. It’s just a weed, right!
Perspective: // “The taxes are not whats killing you. Whats killing you is the fact you are not clearing as much profit as you are used to.”//
And one of of the reasons for not clearing as much profit as used to be? Oppressive taxes.
Rocket science involves a lot of math, but basic math is not rocket science.
Ha! Grow something better than B grade full sun and see what happens.
What happens … is you don’t “clear as much profit as you are used to” because oppressively high taxes on your top shelf product eats up much of what used to be profit. These new taxes are are applied to all grades of weed in case you hadn’t heard.
Bullshit! I know plenty of people making money while paying the tax. My point is some people are using it as an excuse for struggling. There is plenty of profit to be made if done correctly.
Are these agencies also attending corporate farming events in the San Joaquin and telling them how apparently harmless farming practices are actually very destructive?
If not, it seems like one more double standard applied to cannabis.
It’s worthy of Orwell to speak of a “transition” to a regulated market when so many existing producers have no path to licensure. What is happening is an attempted market takeover…and it’s not going well.
I used to have some respect but not if it is just about the legal [edit]. I was hoping they would be more supportive of the traditional perspective. Just because it is regulated in California does not mean the war is over. Sad times, sad times indeed!!!
What a downer! No group I would like to hear from less!!
What a joke. Suggestion box? How about this. Cdfa skip the road trip stay at your desk and start on the LSA permits that were turned in TWO YEARS AGO.
They are suited for each other! Government agency encouraging neighbors to narc each other out will be at the Main Event for sell-out greed-heads and rookie wanna-bees…Oh yeah there might be a decent person or two in there. But in general a hyped atmosphere of carpetbagging corporate takeover artists and a bunch of idiots who love to be regulated and incorrectly call it freedom. A really cool and hip form of freedom where you pay fees that go directly to cops to eradicate your neighbors! Irie, bro. Later on I’ll tell you how I really feel about this crap…
This -> hyped atmosphere of carpetbagging
“Carpet Baggers” pump money into the local economy just like locals do. You’re just being xenophobic, and using the language of genocidal reconstruction-era racists, to boot.
* yawn *
Canibus a legel.
Yeah dude, can’t wait to see the CAliCommie Department of Fuk ur Game up speak about some bullshit lame stuff.. that’s gonna be great. All the Ass-Licker pemitiees will LUV that..
Open honest communication.. asss in open and honestly turn in your neighbors.. IT will be soo great having the State department there keeping a close eye on whose who. Man I luv this new age of “open honesty” turn yourself inbullshit.. So Great… As in Great straight lousy blowhard job! All in the crusade of Environmental not really Justice of course.. but the right amount on a high enough stack and pollute away with impunity…. Great workshop… Make themselves look like the “good guys” while raiding small non violent family… truely eco farms at gunpoint.. then parade around like they “won” the “war on weed”.. and unleash the “Weeds of Wrath” on the Emerald economy.. yeah..like super straight absolute buzz kill! Emerald Sell out cup more like it!
Couldn’t agree more👍🏼
Praise!!!
Dfw head supervisor who has a vertically integrated cannabis company in napa should be there he can explain to the irie bro crowd that if they rat there neighbors out they will continue to not enforce the environmental regs on them even though they doze there property without permits, leave trash by Creek, and suck water illegally. And the dfw gets budget increase win win for good old Bob.
SMH. Totally Lame.
What a party.
Bbbblllaaaa hhhhaaaa hhhhhhaaaaa, the emerald cup has turned into a law enforcement party !!!!! Wont ever pay attention or even read anything about that event again. Hilarious, and truly shameful.

Punk Rock died the day they started making those stickers that said it had not.
No True Scotsman
The cup sells out every year, many go for the music and friends workshops and connections. Tim is a great guy, puts his heart and soul in everything he touches. I was at first cup. Seen it grow and change. Change is ok. Proud of how it’s doing. Much respect to the hardwood love and dedication
