Fortuna Police Department Welcomes New Officer

Press release from the Fortuna Police Department:

Silas GrigsbyOur newest police officer joined the Fortuna Police Department, and began his first patrol shift in Fortuna on November 25th. However he is no novice to police work having previously worked for the Ferndale Police department.

He brings with him a breadth of experience in several different industries.

Prior to attending the Police Academy in Eureka and joining our department, he worked at Costco and the McKinleyville Community Services District. He has also been a Barista for Starbucks Coffee Company and a Loss Control Officer for Target Corporation, and took time to study Liberal Arts at College of the Redwoods. [Silas]

Grigsby says that part of his long time interest in police work comes from family tradition dating back several generations with an ancestor who served with the San Francisco Police department.

He says that law enforcement has always interested him, but adds “some of my ideas of what police work is all about have changed, now that I am actually doing it.” Grigsby adds, “I am really looking forward to serving the community of Fortuna.”

Though he has previously worked as a police officer, he will need to complete the mandatory 16 week field training period required of all Fortuna Officers.

This evaluation period ensures that an officer meets the high standards required of our officers before being certified as qualified to patrol by him or herself. It also allows new officers to familiarize themselves with Fortuna neighborhoods and streets.

Hopefully he understands the oath of office and how important that is . Because we are living in a time of trouble my opinion I’d like to think I have a right to it .

The article states that he was a Ferndale police officer prior to taking a job with the Fortuna PD.

This is ABSOLUTELY the same person. I would like to say, you’re not welcome. And, to all the good Fortuna residence, watch your ass. This guy will pull you over for absolutely nothing and treat you like a piece of shit. I have heard horror stories of how he behaved in Ferndale.

I’ve heard about that guy… supposedly drew his gun on someone while screaming at them when he pulled them over into the driver’s own house driveway. It sounds like a Marine with PTSD from the sandbox that they gave a badge.

Welcome to the community Officer Silas Grigsby. Enjoy your new job, and please be safe out here. Police today do not get the respect that they deserve for their hard and dangerous work. I am sure the retiring Chief will fill you in on all the problems and areas where they occur.

I’d like to see around 50,000 new cops added to the area, it needs that at a minimum.

Interesting the officers get a lot of hate maybe they should inform the community on some of the good things done by the officers. As a Ferndale resident I appreciate our police department especially with all the theft in the area. We have like six officers hired at Ferndale in a little over a year.
