With Help of Multiple Agencies, Suspect Captured in ‘Dense Wilderness’

Information from the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office:

Steven Louis Sills

Teamwork makes the dream work!

In case you were wondering what the pursuit was all about last night, we would like to provide you with some details.

A burglary occurred off of Elk Valley Road last night just prior to 5pm. It’s believed that the primary suspect broke into the residence and stole a vehicle from the garage. It is also believed that that suspect obtained the keys to that vehicle from a previous burglary.

DNSO dispatch was notified of the theft and immediately provided all local/regional law enforcement with the vehicle description.

NPS encountered the vehicle being driven near the Smith River area and initiated a pursuit. The operator of the stolen vehicle was absolutely a danger to the public and he attempted to evade law enforcement. Crescent City CHP and the DNSO joined into the pursuit as the driver refused to pull over.

The pursuit continued for several miles and ultimately headed up Low Divide Road. The driver continued up low divide until he caused the vehicle to become inoperable and fled on foot.

The suspect was tracked by law enforcement with the assistance of a nearby resident into some incredibly dense wilderness. A perimeter was established and the DNSO requested mutual aid from Pelican Bay CRT and the NPS K9 unit.

After several hours of tracking the suspect by foot and traversing through the nearly impassible wild terrain, law enforcement located Steven Louis Sills, (42 years old) and apprehended him.

Sheriff Apperson was present during the entire incident and said “Today’s success is 100% a result of top-tier law enforcement professionals unwilling to quit while in pursuit of an individual that was tormenting our community. I could not be more impressed by their willingness to assist and the exemplary performance displayed by our local partners including NPS, CHP and Pelican Bay CRT. I’m incredibly proud of the DNSO for their management in the apprehension of Mr. Sills. He absolutely needed to be taken into custody and off of the streets.”

Steve Sills? I would have thought he would be making enough money with Crosby, Sills, and Nash that he wouldn’t need to do burglaries.

Hopefully they will hold him a little bit longer than Humboldt’s catch and release program.

Tracking humans is an art…

In the late 80s into the mid 90s I did hundreds of repos on cars.

Back then, farcebook didn’t exist, we used phone books to gather intelligence and set the scene to pull a car.

I spent years tracking humans and reflect decades later on that adrenaline rush, and cash!

In this modern world, with technology, portable technology, it’s probably the same rush with less work.

Local Law Enforcement needs old school instruction on this art.

It’s not science, behavior is similar to a magnet.

I’d just really like to see a team assembled that actually tracked criminals and brought them in.

The Triangle is full of 3rd string runners that won’t even make the odd boards in Reno.

Law Enforcement could do so much more….

Repo men……one of the scuzziest professions in the Universe. Tracking humans to steal there cars back for the banks is akin to working for Satan. Glad you can reflect positively on the cash, and the rush…..!

As for law enforcement agents doing more to track criminals? They aint about to get all John Wayne up it here. Not exactly the most cerebral of professions. Not a typical first career choice for anyone except social misfits that got there asses beat in high school.

Stealing cars back? The car belongs to the bank until the loan is paid off. Just because the car is in your possession doesn’t make it yours. Failure to make payments gives the bank every reason to want their property back.

How about theft, not a priority? Banks don’t give away free cars.

Wonder how much assistance the guy that lived there provided. When they were handing out back slaps they forgot him.

Bunch if ignorant comments, self praise from a repo guru/tracker and lawless toads. Good work by the authorities should be praised and appreciated. The country is going to hell in a handbasket.

How about if the authoritahs just do the job they were hired to do without all the semperphi bullshit.

Lets reserve the praise and appreciation for people who actually deserve praise and appreciation. This constant drone of “hey worship us awesome superhuman heroes” is getting old, and certainly misplaced.

“Fame” is for insecure narcissists. I just praised and appreciated the UPS guy for doing his job. Why are the authoritahs worthy of anymore praise and appreciation that the average Joe doing his job correctly?

Nice dodge “guest”. What are you known for? Do you do anything worthy of recognition and do you appreciate praise for doing your job?

Well chicks dig me, because I rarely wear underwear and when I do it’s usually something unusual. But now I know why I have always lost women to guys like you. I mean, it’s not just the uniform. It’s the stories that you tell. So much fun and imagination.

I see that the Lost Coast Low Effort Post School of Press Release Journalism is spreading like….well…..cancer.

At least it seems that DNSO has someone who can write, which itself seems newsworthy.
