Woman Receives Major Injuries After Hit by Vehicle
Press release from the California Highway Patrol:
On 11-19-2019, at approximately 1:21 AM, the Humboldt Area CHP responded to a call of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Southbound US-101 at the California Redwood Company crossing, which is located just north of Harper Motors.
Upon arriving on scene, emergency medical personnel located 38 year old Amanda Dyball of Fortuna, suffering from major injuries due to being struck by a vehicle. Ms. Dyball was subsequently transported to St. Joseph Hospital for treatment of her injuries. Officers interviewed the driver of the vehicle, 32 year old Jorge Martinez, and his passenger, 36 year old Paula Bana, both of Santa Rosa. Based on the preliminary investigation officers determined that Ms. Dyball walked across US-101 and directly into the path of Mr. Martinez. It was dark and raining lightly at the time of the collision, increasing the danger of crossing the roadway at this location.
The CHP Humboldt Area Office is continuing its investigation into this collision and asks anyone who may have information to contact the office at 707-822-5981 or send an email to [email protected].
The CHP would also like to remind pedestrians to increase your visibility at night by carrying a flashlight and wearing light-colored or reflective clothing. Also, be careful crossing multiple lanes of traffic and make sure each lane of traffic is clear before you cross.

Elijah, your comment is uncalled for. I doubt anyone would walk out into freeway traffic so they would be hit and sue for money. That woman is just plain lucky she was not killed! Hope she will be fine, and I feel sorry for the driver that hit her. Not a good memory even though it was not his fault.

Yes there is. It’s where you get mugged by tweekers. The gamble of running across the freeway is actually safer.
I walk that path every morning from the Franz up to where it stops at that old mill or w/e that noisy building with the big green thing on top and back, and only time I had trouble was some random crazy dude walking along in black with his cane yelling out me and my dog until told his stfu or I’d beat the crap out of him, and havnt seen him since.
