Garberville Veteran’s Association Hosting 35th Annual Thanksgiving Community Celebration

This is a press release from Garberville Chiropractic and the Mateel:

This will be the 35th year that the Annual Thanksgiving Community Celebrations will be produced and presented by the Garberville Veterans Association. WOW!

This year we’ll continue the tradition with the traditional Thanksgiving meal being served from noon to 4pm. again this year we’re grateful that the Mateel Community center is providing space for us to gather there due to the shuttering of the John Haynes Veterans Memorial Hall by the county.

All are invited to share in the festivities. Do not stay at home feeling alone, ignored or deserted, know that people do care about you so come and share the light.

We also deliver meals by auto to those folks who cannot get out to share in the celebration. Please contact Meals-On-Wheels drivers care of the Healy Senior Center to insure that your name and address is on the list and you won’t even have to do dishes. They too will start driving at noon.

Members from the business community and various angels from our neighborhoods typically share in the financial support for this endeavor. And, checks or money orders can be mailed to the Turkey Fund c/o GVA at Box 133 Garberville 95542 or, dropped off at the Credit Union Veterans Turkey Fund account # 1837 or hand delivered only to Amie McClellen, Tom Pietila or Brian Ormond.

We highly encourage those who want to help our infamous Chef Babette in the preparation of the meal to arrive at 10 AM on Monday the 25th at 2PM Tues ano or Wednesday the 26th and 27th at 10 AM or at 8AM on Thanksgiving day prepared to work. Please bring your favorite apron and sharp knife if possible.

Other volunteers are needed to help with various setup tasks including table setting and decorating on Wednesday  and we will need a cleanup crew on Friday at 10AM end to return the building to its normal spick and span condition.

On Thanksgiving Day we’ll need people to help serve the meal, to play music, to eat food, to know why they are thankful and grateful and we’ll need several people throughout the day to help tidy up, do dishes.

Baked goods as well as orchard and garden produce will be greatly appreciated and will be accepted on Tuesday Wednesday or Thanksgiving Day mornings.

Respectfully,

Dr. Brian Ormond

This event is such a great gift to the community!! I have served food there. Mixing with all our neighbors, (housed and non) on equal footing, where all are happy, is an occasion not to be missed!
And. If you can afford it, PLEASE DONATE!!

I have enjoyed many Veterans community dinners always had a good time there. Hopefully the County well restore the building:
the Veteran’s Hall has been used for emergency shelter during extreme events, also to hold charitable events when families have had disasters, We can count on the Veteran’s to use this building to help the community thanks everybody who helps keep our lives together.
