CR Students Now Have Easier Access to HSU Library Resources

booksPress release from Humboldt State University:

Checking out books at Humboldt State University’s Library is now easier for College of the Redwoods students under a new partnership between both institutions.

Starting last month, all CR students and employees can check out books and access other resources at HSU’s Library for free without an annual membership.

By removing the annual membership fee, HSU Library resources are more accessible to the community college students, says CR Library Director Cathy Cox.

“Many of our students transfer to HSU. Providing easier access to HSU’s Library will offer a more seamless experience,” she says. “By the time they get to HSU, they’ll already know where to find information, what’s available, and will be familiar with the campus.”

There is no charge for community members, including HSU students and staff, to check out books from the CR library.

The partnership is one of several recent collaborations between CR and HSU libraries. With $100,000 in grant funding from the California State Library, the HSU Library will develop programming that promotes computer literacy to HSU students and the local community, in cooperation with College of the Redwoods Library, and other community partners (Arcata Chamber of Commerce, and Humboldt County Library.

Cyril Oberlander, HSU Library dean, believes these efforts underscore a commitment to enhancing the education of students throughout the county, and to building community.

“It’s great to have College of the Redwoods and HSU students learning together and making connections to support their success and strengthen the larger community. HSU Library is about connecting people and ideas, and our agreement enriches everyone,” he says.

This is more good news for the community. Way too often in the past HSU has treated the local community with disdain. Making closer ties will be good for both. I begin to think better of the institution. Such gestures a long way.c

Lol.. you mean a library is more than a book museum? It sounds like an all you can eat book buffet! Nice! Libraries remind me that there are good things in the world!
