[UPDATE 5:33 p.m.: Second Suspect Taken Into Custody] One Suspect Detained Near Old Briceland Road After Flurry of Law Enforcement Activity

This afternoon, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is requesting residents of Southern Humboldt avoid a pursuit that is “underway on Sprowel Creek Rd towards Briceland.”
According to a tweet at 2:14 p.m. by the Sheriff’s Office, one woman has been detained. Two men are still being sought. One of the men, they stated, “is wanted felony warrant subject Robert Cullen- wearing a tan/grey sweatshirt, tan beanie, blue jeans and white shoes.”

UPDATE 2:41 p.m.: The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office just tweeted, “Cullen last seen headed W/NW on foot from 2600 block of Old Briceland Road. Resident of area are asked to lock doors and stay inside while law enforcement activities continue.”
UPDATE 2:45 p.m.: FlightRadar shows a CHP plane headed from Redding to the area where the suspect was last seen.
UPDATE 2:47 p.m.: The Sheriff’s Office just tweeted, “2nd subject associated with Cullen last seen headed south from 2600 block of Old Briceland Road wearing a green t-shirt. If you see either subjects, please call 911.”
UPDATE 3 p.m.: FlightRadar shows a CHP plane circling over Old Briceland Road.
UPDATE 3:10 p.m.: The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office tweeted, “Fish and Game K9 team assisting in search.”
UPDATE 4:26 p.m.: According to Samantha Karges, spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office, Old Briceland Road is open and residents can travel through the area. However, she warned, “[P]lease don’t pick up any hitchhikers on the road.”
UPDATE 4:34 p.m.: Karges confirmed that the CHP plane has stopped searching for the night “unless the situation changes [then] it could be called upon again.”
UPDATE 5:06 p.m.: The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office just tweeted, “2nd male subject has been apprehended. Cullen is still outstanding as of 5 pm.”
UPDATE 5:33 p.m.: The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office just tweeted, “Sprowel Creek residents are asked to keep doors and windows locked. Do not pick up hitchhikers. If you see Cullen, please call 9-1-1.”
Karges, their spokesperson, told us that the suspect taken into custody is, Gregory Michael Benson age 55. (See here for more on Benson)

Umm, not really professor. We have a school system that can’t keep teachers out of fear that the pot growing parents will acost them over disciplining their entitled brats. A third world hospital. A town Garberville full of junkies and outlying bum camps. Home invasions weekly. A sheriff dept. more worried about not being politically correct. A community up in arms because they can’t apply their illegal drug trade. I could go on… own your shit sohum

I don’t know the specifics of your story, but I work in a small community school where a vast majority of the parents have something to do with the ganja world. Some aren’t, but most are great and understand the value of community.
as for crying victim, the folks making the rules in the county are cut from the same cloth as those who have hated the hippies or back to the landers or dope growers since before the green rush. There’s some serious intergenerational revenge mentality going on here.

I for one cant wait to move back to the Humboldt mountains and be productive after the sea of weed washes away. Humboldt greed became too hard to watch. What’s the point of any of this? Expend all this money and time, risk deputies and civilians lives (don’t personally care about Cullen’s life, but I guess we can add it to the list of things endangered), smash up patrol cars, put a plane in the air… for what? To send a guy to jail, where he’ll sit for 5 hours and then get released?
