Thank you Kym on these updates. I had a planned visit to see my daughter in Davis. Don’t think 20 will be an option home tomorrow. The winds are stronger than I can recall. Wreaking havoc on the streets in Davis. Oaks and wind aren’t friends. Sending prayers to everyone impacted and evacuated due to the fires 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Early this morning what I believe I saw was the early stages of the fire a small plume there was a police vehicle at the Confluence of Porter Valley Road and the 20 most likely he’s saw the plume also he had his lights on flashers red and blue the plume of smoke was south of the 20 close to the confluence of Porter Valley it seemed manageable at the time but I guess due to all the fires going on it must have got away a bit

People from out the area call me when they hear “Mendocino” thinking it is the Village. Can you please say “Mendocino County” so people are not confused or upset unnecessarily? Thanks so much.

Laura I apologize if what I’m about to type seems snide or snarky but being a bIt closer to the fire danger here in Mendo, knowing families who are evacuating, I just can’t even fathom how a person could post a request to an online news source to specify a name so that your friends don’t get upset or confused. What seems like a more rrssaonable thing to do would be for your friends to read the whole article and not just the headline, or maybe you could just send out a group text with a heads up that you’re doing fine in the village, or probably anything g other than literally asking this news source for a favor. I cannot wrap my mind around a comment like this when people are losing their homes and running for their lives.

If you were just kidding, I’m very sorry.

Yes, for your convenience it should be clarified that other people are loosing their homes and pets and running for their lives with the clothes on their back, not you. Hope this makes your week smoother.

I live in Southern CA, and I have family in Potter Valley.

It is a very good idea to add the county so that we can identify where the incidence is actually occuring.

No harm done, just want to share my thought.

@Belinda
The story and the press releases are so very specific. The village of Mendocino is a very small town within the.large county of Mendocino. Potter Valley is another small town within this county. I don’t understand how there is so much confusion about a headline mentioning Mendocino even if the word county didn’t fit or was left out of that headline. Stop expecting to get all of your very important ,specific and personal news from a HEADLINE. Read the article and you’ll understand where it’s happening.

Or maybe Kym could put you and the previous commenter on her speed dial and text you both personally whenever something happens in Mendo county so you and your friends don’t get nervous. /s

Or we could maybe take a step or two back from the unbelievably entitled positions we think we occupy in this very large world.

Thank you so much, Kym and RHBB staff for this update, which even local sources here in Lake Co. aren’t posting yet. I got home to Lake Co. from a visit to Humboldt yesterday afternoon just in time to pass the fire right before Hwy 20 was closed — big plume of brown (?) smoke rising behind hills at the Potter Valley turnoff. Shortly after that 20 was closed. Best wishes to all of you in Humboldt, thank you — and yeah, I’m going to donate to RHBB today!

Hey Kym. Is the last update at 6:53 a.m. for today 10/28? It seems that it is. But I wonder of it would be too much to put the date of the update on there? Would help people like me from having to go back and read all the updates to figure out the timing of this one. 🙂
