[UPDATE 2:32 p.m.] Power Out at 5 p.m., Says Latest from the Humboldt County Office of Emergency Service

Humboldt County Power Safety updateJust like the rest of the North Coast, Humboldt County Office of Emergency Service is trying to ride the rollercoaster of the constantly changing start times for PG&E’s Public Safety Power Shutoff. Here’s what they posted at 9:23 a.m.

Here’s the latest

You still have some time today to get yourself ready before it’s lights out.

Our latest information indicates Humboldt County will be without power by 5pm tonight, 10/26/19.

But don’t wait to get what you need! Gas stations, ATMs, Hardware Stores, and Grocery Stores have been inundated and are already running low on certain supplies. Better to be over-prepared than under!

Humboldt County OES has opened and staffed up it’s Emergency Operation Center to ensure our community is supported throughout the outage. We are here for you.

ALL Updated Information will be posted to this Facebook page. Humboldt County OES is the authority for the PSPS outages. Comment here or message us with any questions and we will provide clarification as we can.

Humboldt Alerts will also contain important, verified updates. Humboldt Alerts will come from 441-5000, so please answer that number if you see it. It may also show up as Humboldt CTY. These messages are coming from us! So you can trust what you see there.

Thank you, and be safe and kind 💛

More information in an update from the Humboldt County alert system that went out at 10:04 a.m.:

P G & E advises that all customers in Humboldt County will lose power beginning at 5 pm today due to extreme weather conditions in parts of Humboldt County and surrounding counties that will cause dangerous conditions for power transmission lines. Expect power to be out several days. We will be sending out several Humboldt Alerts during this event with updated information.

Community Resource Centers are being set up. Please follow local news agencies, social media outlets and on our web site at Humboldtgov.org

We at the Blue Moon just received a call from” humboldt alerts” (2:25 P.M.) that the power is going off at 7:00 P.M.. Flavors across the street got a call that the shut off will be at 3:00 and my home phone in Miranda says 5:00….go figure.

Many folks did not have access to the internet during the last outage, and don’t expect this time to be any different. What’s the best way to get updates other than social media? Will any radio stations be providing regular updates? thanks

They’re covering all their bases by saying, “It might or might not happen either at your location or somewhere else, sometime between five minutes from now and Christmas, and will last anywhere from 48 hours to 48 days.”

They tell us to stay informed via all the options but HOW? I was real smug during the last blackout when I fired up my generator until I realized that Suddenlink was down as well. Even my Tracfone was out.

There was no phone or internet here the last time. Would it be too doggone hard to work with local radio to keep the word out? They could tell us which stations would have info.

KIDE Hupa tribal radio announces updates while they are live on the air. If you are in their range. Don’t know if they will be on the air after shutdown, but they do have solar.

I live in SE Humboldt and had phone and internet last time. I’ve got a 2000W generator to keep the fridge cold and the lights and computer on. One thing I’m not seeing mentioned anywhere is how crucial it is to install a transfer switch so the electricity doesn’t flow backwards through the lines and electrocute the utility workers. My ISP is 101 Netlink. They must have a generator keeping them up.

But Frontier, the phone company, says they’ve got battery power enough to keep the phone up for only about three days. We’ve got folks on the Southern Humboldt Fire Safe Council researching and negotiating with Frontier and PG&E to work on that and keep the phone up for a longer outage.

They are owned by those who want radio dead. Why would they? Radio is free and can save lives. Its up to you to pay more attention to that particular technology. KHUM, KMUD, any other independent stations will be on the case, I assure you. Support them. They are the last ones left.

I’ve been saving electricity in quart jars for months now. I think I can go for about two weeks on what I have. 🤔

Thanks Kym,

We look to you in Branscomb too!

We need to make sure Cal Fire and Newsome support Ham radio
Can’t understand why Cal Fire would want to take it down and Newsome would agree. Geez!!

If you have a working computer don’t forget about broadcastify.

$15.00 for 6 months.

KMUD broadcasts updates at the top of the hour on the hour – at least they did during the last outage. Good local coverage. 88.1 northern Humboldt.
