[UPDATE 8:12 p.m.] Vegetation Fire Burning Near New Navy Road

A  vegetation fire is burning off New Navy Base Road in the area of Stamps Lane. The first report came in about 7:12 p.m.

“Slow rate of spread,” reported the Incident Commander about 7:24 p.m.

UPDATE 7:40 p.m.: Forward progress has stopped, says the Incident Commander.

UPDATE 8:12 p.m.: The firefighters searched through the dark making sure the embers that might start another fire were quenched. The fire is now out though and they can head back/

These firefighters are true heroes that get little attention. As a Marine I appreciate and Thank these guys for serving to protect us at home from these often destructive fires.

Thanks to the fire dept’s quick efforts….. since PG and E could have called a future Humboldt PSPS if it got any bigger.
