Rain Across the Emerald Counties
Below, the National Weather Service released radar of the incoming front via Twitter at 1:14 p.m.
A frontal system has been bringing rain to Del Norte County today and is now moving into Humboldt County. This front will sweep through Northwest California today into tonight bringing at least some rain to the entire region. Radar as of 1:10 pm: pic.twitter.com/IgjCogecq1

We’re also due for some rising wave action starting tomorrow. The National Weather Service warns, “The first major west-northwest swell of this fall will impact the coastal waters Thursday with surf heights from 16 to 20 feet for west-northwest facing beaches. Increased wave action may overtop jetties and rocks. Remember, never turn your back to the ocean.”
Remember, while driving, make sure your headlights are on, turn off your cruise control to help avoid hydroplaning, and slow down.

Finally!!!
I repeat what they advised slow down turn on your lights and watch out for the other guy I got so many bad drivers around here
I so love the Ducky Weather… NOT!!! QUACK!!!
Looks like we haven’t washed the summer oil-creepage off the roads yet… everything is slick today.
Nothing like in past years, as a motorcycle rider, in the past it was treacherous, to the point of my deciding to forgo riding on the first rain of the season for many years.
Today’s car engines have vastly improved oil retention properties over cars of years ago. My one car goes 7000 miles on an oil change without having to add any oil in between, unheard of in my previous 50’s through 90’s cars.
I think some portion of the slipperyness is oil from the asphalt itself seeping up while baking in the hot sun… because the amount of slipperyness doesn’t feel like it’s gone down remotely proportional to how much less oil vehicles are leaving on the road.
I found a few hills where it was hard to maintain traction yesterday, and a few quick jabs of the gas pedal confirmed that it was slippery as heck even on the relatively dry spots, so it wasn’t related to hydroplaning at all.
It maybe due to the age of the roadway as well, with the jagged edges of the aggregate being round off from traffic usage over time.
From my motorsports experience, a fresh asphalt pavement has a considerable amount of tire grip, but over time, as the aggregate starts to round off, the tire grip becomes less and making the track more “slippery”.
Center of lane oil residue was more of a factor in the past than today, with one incident of years ago in my making an evasive turning and braking maneuver on first rain pavement, causing me and my motorcycle go down to the pavement.
The incident caused my motorcycle to travel from the left tire track, into the center oil slick ,picking extra speed in the process, and then have both tires gain considerable traction in the right tire, causing the motorcycle to flop over onto it’s right side. Not a good way to fall on a motorcycle.

Awesome! Come on November. Sick of sunny days and dusty roads.
Give it a few months, and that’ll change.
I always want an Indian summer, to finish the many summer projects I have not completed. So, October is a non-stop hustle. I get lots done! And. I become very exhausted. It’s crossing things off the list (‘conquering the list’ 😉 ) that keeps me going.
So. Rain? I don’t want it…. yet! But. If it doesn’t rain a little, I won’t get a break or any rest. 😮 So, I guess, a little here and there, like it has so far, I can handle it (still haven’t gotten enough rest though, lol).
Ah. I knew it. Motivation requires a To Do List.
Hwy 36 through the construction zone is slick as snot. How about someone provide an update on why this one year project is heading into the third year with no end in sight
We have about 0.62 Inch so far East of Fortuna at about 500 feet elev.
Power out in Redway 2:50a.m. Thursday, is this related to the rain?
Yes. If it’s too rainy we get no power. If it’s toi hot, we get no power. If it’s too windy we get no power. If it’s too snowy we get no power. If it’s too dry we get no power. The wizard of Oz as arrived…
if it frosts, we get no power. Shareholders need that big money, so where is the budget cut? Equipment and infra-structure! Right you are.
~maybe, just maybe, the lines and poles and thingies are aged and it doesn’t take much to disconnect from the two-way flowing currency, where 80% is lost on the way to use. Did u know that the Rothchild’s PG&E INC., Pacific Gas and Electric, Redwood Coast Energy Authority, Spark of CA INC., etc. and so on and so forth, have no way of measuring loss of the “generated” energy (sure)? Nothing happens if the death meter is stymied and not continually transmitting it’s constant microwave blips of radiation, because T.H.E.Y. can’t prove loss.
Energy is all around us. Tesla patented the way to what we term “free'” energy, over a hundred years ago. Patents suppressed by the warlords.
Encourage Greta onto a path of knowns, and sick her on the District of Criminals.
Release the damned patents, Judas!
Power out 130 am briceland……
