Press release from Humboldt Bay Fire:

Neighbors were awakened Wednesday morning to smoke and flames coming from a home on the 6300 block of Purdue Drive [in Eureka] around 12:45AM.

Humboldt Bay Fire crews mobilized and arrived to find the home well-involved in fire.

The incident was upgraded to a second alarm, quickly pulling in 4 Fire Engines, 1 Fire Truck, 3 Command Staff, 1 Public Information Officer and Fire Support from Humboldt Bay Fire, as well as 1 Fire Engine from Arcata Fire District.

HBF crews performed a search and one occupant was rescued from the home. The patient is in critical condition and was transported by City Ambulance to St. Joseph Hospital.

After performing rescue operations and confirming there were no other occupants, crews gained fire control and were able to prevent the spread of fire to any neighboring homes.

Preliminary damage assessments value the fire loss at $250,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.

Humboldt Bay Fire would like to thank Arcata Fire District, City Ambulance, and HBF Fire Support & Volunteers for assistance on scene, as well as Samoa Peninsula Fire District and Loleta Volunteer Fire Department for coverage.

Humboldt Bay Fire would also like to thank the neighbors on scene for their information and concern for their neighbor. Our thoughts are with the family.

Wishing the very best for the man taken to the hospital and her family. Thank you to all the first responders that cared for her, and put out the fire before it could spread to other homes. You people are my hero’s for the day!

So your comment begs the question, if “homes are bad and, a burden on taxpayers” mean we should all live in weeds, under bridges, and doorways, or behind the bayshore mall? I’m guessing you don’t pay taxes as they are a “burden”. SERIOUSLY WTF? [edit]
