That’s still to be decided, and that’s why there’s a public meeting.
Come to the meeting on November 12th to discuss it.

So. . .isn’t there already a parcel tax for TRFPD? Would this be in addition to that?

Yes there is, but it’s inadequate. It’s $10 a year for undeveloped parcels and $30 a year for developed ones. Other volunteer fire departments in our area get about $85 to $100. (And they all still have to do fundraising to pay the bills).
Come to the public meeting to talk about it.

Explain why, how much, how long what is the goal for this money, especially since many of us know Peter has been against government help for decades!

You are mistaken. I am not, and have never been, opposed to government help.
I support funds for libraries, hospitals, schools, and fire districts.

This press release is vague to say the least. Where and what parcels? All of Humboldt? All unincorporated areas? Or just parcels in Telegraph Ridge’s surrounding jurisdiction?

The district only has the power to put on the ballot a tax for properties within it boundaries. I totally support Telegraph Ridge FPD and Peter in their efforts to secure satble funding to support your fire department and emergency response

Parcel taxes as they stand are basically poll taxes. In other countries people seriously riot over poll taxes.

Poll-like parcel taxes are the same on every size property, 1/8th of an acre or a 600 acre property. Not fair. Parcel taxes… All property taxes should be appraised by land value and size- not by singularity.

Nothing against the fire dept- Please Support them personally any way that you can!

Just an observation that what our culture here considers “normal” is not by any means normal to much or most of the world, including the parent of our mainstream culture; England. In fact, it’s not only weird and abnormal, it severely limits our resources.

Another unfairness issue of any property tax is that those who don’t own property (renters) receive services for nothing.

That being said, I support the Telegraph Ridge Fire Protection District in its efforts to establish a predictable income stream instead of relying on fundraising events, which can be especially vulnerable to competing community events and the vagaries of weather. Over the years, Peter and his cadre of dedicated volunteers have made extensive and successful efforts to improve the level of firefighter and emergency response services.

I still need to know more about the district’s parcel tax proposal before it receives my endorsement.

Gosh. We all pay so much in taxes, from income to sales to property taxes and then still pay high fees to get our government workers to do the jobs they are being paid to do.
Id pay a fee to support a really strong fire dept like telegraph ridge, but you guys have to know its hard now. People are getting older. Money is getting tighter. This may really hurt some people more than you realize.

Oh Hell NO!

Figure out how to get it outta the million-a-month theft, err taxation. The 1/2% COUNTYWIDE RE-Sale tax.

Get on the list. The People are already maxed. You are paid. If you need more, get in line. Ernie is on the committee – maybe he can lend a hand.
