No big rigs should be allowed on 36 unless the driver has made at least one round trip in a normal vehicle. Someone carrying a load from LA or Seattle will take 36 from I 5 because it looks like a shortcut to the coast.
It’s not😲

I guess I missed the part in the article where this was someone unfamiliar with the road. Or Doggo maybe your just reading between the lines. I can’t imagine not being able to drive where I want and when I want without first checking it out by driving it in a 4 wheeler. Granted 36 is not for the faint of heart but it is a state highway and as such is marked with all the appropriate signage to get anyone such as yourself across there safely.
But CA. being the nanny state it is, I’m sure that someday soon we’ll need to check out all the alternate routes before we’re allowed to drive to the grocery store first !!!

It’s around 10 miles between Platina, in Shasta County, and Wild R Ranch in Tehama County. It sounds more like 36 is closed (or possibly just semi-closed…pun intended) between those points instead of there being a 10-mile crash site. Platina Rd would be the only detour for east bound traffic to be able to get to “The” 5.
