(VIDEO) Caltrans Shows You What to do at Intersections When the Power is Shut Off

This is a press release from Caltrans:

This fire season, California’s largest power companies may shut off at-risk power lines to prevent sparking wildfires. That could mean no power for long periods, from mountainous regions to cities like San Francisco.

When the power goes out, traffic signals will start flashing and may even go dark if the power shut off lasts for days.

Caltrans operates nearly five thousand traffic signals statewide, and the department wants to make sure you are ready when the lights go out.

In this News Flash, we will show you the safest way to navigate an intersection during times with no power.

What, is the new, new, newsroom running short on something worthwhile reporting?

~if you have ever made it thru an intersection when the signals weren’t functioning –how DID you do it?

I think that reminders like this are a public service. Everything does not have to be dramatic breaking stories. Too much would smack of nagging but some occasional reminders are helpful.

If you can’t figure out what to do at an intersection with or without lights, or a stop sign – you shouldn’t be behind the wheel.

Now it’s been a while since i took driver’s education, but aren’t you supposed to treat it like a 4 way stop? Is this something that drivers really can’t remember?

I think the reminder is very good I don’t think it’s nagging people are becoming poor and poor drivers anybody with a brain in their head would stop the problem is you have to hope other people are going to stop just remember it’s like a four-way stop

Now if Cal Trans could do another video on how to merge on to the freeway. The freeway traffic has the right of way, not the car merging. How many times do people merge without looking, expecting other drivers to avoid them.

And they also refuse to grasp that in order to merge, you have to be going the same speed as the traffic you’re merging into, or slightly faster. Pulling into 70mph traffic at 30mph IS NOT MERGING.
