Injuries Taking Toll on South Fork Cubs

Sports Feature iconInjuries are already taking their toll on the South Fork Cubs, who endured a tough season opener in football on Friday night, falling 68-12 to a strong Cornerstone Christian squad in Miranda.

The visitors, who returned 10 players from an undefeated team in 2018, took control of the game early and never looked in danger.

For a young Cubs team, which features a junior-heavy lineup, it was a baptism of fire, although injuries didn’t help matters with the team’s starting running back and quarterback both sidelined.

Junior running back Riley Gallagher broke his collarbone in practice earlier in the week, while QB Sean Hassall-Hoss was forced from Friday’s game with a mild concussion.

Congratulations to the CUBS for giving it all you had in the game. Sorry to hear about the injuries. Heal fast guys. You are all winners in my book, and I am proud of each one of you! Best of luck in your next game.

Way to show heart out there Cubs. When the tough got going, you guys stepped up and gave it your best. I didn’t see one quitter on that field. I saw a group of young men keeping their heads up and giving it their all til the bitter end…
I’m looking forward to a wonderful season and I’m sure a victorious one. The first game of the season was a rough one BUT you guys faced the largest team of the league.. I’m most certain victory is right around the corner … way to go!!! Cub Pride
