[UPDATE 6:17 p.m.] Fire West of Laytonville

A five acre fire is burning in grass southwest of Laytonville along the Branscomb Road, tweeted Cal Fire Mendocino about 4:38 p.m.

The Mud Fire, as it is called, was reported around 4 p.m.

The flames are spreading at a moderate rate but firefighters were able to jump on it quickly. And some resources such as T96 are being returned to base–a good sign.

Cal Fire and Laytonville Fire are at the incident.

UPDATE 6:17 p.m.: Cal Fire tweeted that the Mud Fire has been contained at five acres. Firefighters are now mopping up.

I was right behind Wavy’s spot in the audience at Electric on the Eel 1991 and can very honestly say that he never once touched a joint, pipe, bong, etc. the entire time. On the other hand, one cannot help but to breathe in the air which is right in front of them.

Kudos to a fast response. We do have the best fire fighters in the world in Northern Calif. Thank you is not enough for what they do. during the fire season leave the herb to the pot cops

They probably call it the Mud fire because it is in the general location of the mud springs that are located on the South-East slope of Cahto Mountain.

The mud springs are rather unique in that very soft and runny, clay-like mud bubbles up out of the ground at high tide and recedes during low tide. They are not connected to the ocean because they are located at about 1,700 feet above sea level. The springs form cones, shaped like small volcanoes, in the summer as the mud drys in the sun. The mud washes away down Mud Creek it the winter.

A local curiosity. Been there, done that.
