Three Arrested in Fortuna in Connection With Heroin Transactions

This is a press release from the Humboldt County Drug Task Force. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

Brett Bothelia Mehrtens

Brett Bothelia Mehrtens

On August 6th, 2019, at approximately 1:00 p.m., Special Agents with the Humboldt County Drug Task Force served a search warrant at a motel located in the 800 block of Main Street, Fortuna. During their multi-week investigation, agents received information that

Brett Bothelia Mehrtens

(age 25) and Cheyenne Lea Silva-Lovfald (age 25) are trafficking heroin throughout Humboldt County.

Upon arrival, agents observed Marcus Alan Coles (age 24) departing the scene. It was believed Coles had just purchased narcotics from the room associated to Mehrtens and Silva-Lovfald.

Cheyenne Lea Silva-Lovfald

When contacted, Coles dropped a baggie containing suspected heroin. Coles was subsequently placed under arrest.

Mehrtens was observed exiting the motel room and he was detained without incident. Pursuant to Silva-Lovfald’s probation terms, agents entered her motel room and detained her without incident.

During a search of the motel room agents located over an ounce of suspected heroin, several grams of suspected methamphetamine, digital scales, and other packaging materials.

Agents also located a cooktop, blender, and other cutting materials.

All three subjects were transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility and booked for narcotics violations. Mehrtens was also booked for committing a felony while on bail. Agents obtained a 1275 PC hold on Mehrtens until a source of legitimate bail funds could be examined during a court hearing.

Anyone with information related to this investigation or other narcotics related crimes are encouraged to call the Humboldt County Drug Task Force at 707-267-9976 or the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Tip Line at 707-268-2539.Narcoticscontainer

With the classic “in case you didn’t already know I’m worthless” neck tattoo and the obligatory “I’m scared to get real work done” face tattoos. How hard is it to draw a star. Really?

Brett doesn’t look too concerned because he knows this is just a formality. He’ll be on triple decker probation and back to contributing to our on going drug problem. Time for the City Council to draft our own “Make Eureka Great Again” laws by putting these drug suppliers away for awhile and getting them out of our community! We are spinning our tires in the mud.

I think he is pointing out that, as much as you trumpers would like to blame everything on ‘the outsiders’, there are plenty of ‘your type’ (white rednecks) causing problems around here. It’s a valid point.
Most Mexicans are good family oriented people, many even support trump. They guys that work for me fit that description. Best employees I’ve ever had.
You and your buddies jump on any thread that has a Mexican face on the picture and say something stupid, every time. It gets old.

One other point is like to make, it seems like an disproportionate amount of women named Cheyenne get into trouble. If you have a child named Cheyenne be careful..

Sigh. So you’re just fine with criminals as long as they are foreign nationals? It’s not that there aren’t plenty of natives causing crime but that it’s no excuse for having foreigners coming in to do it too. This sort of argument is like being stuck in a kindergarten of arrested understanding. No one ever says that there isn’t plenty of local native criminals except to those who think to shut down those who have a valid objection by insult. Yet somehow the insulters think themselves so wise by saying so.

https://www.parents.com/toddlers-preschoolers/development/intellectual/how-toddlers-think/

“Toddlers make no distinction between the physical, mental, or emotional “me,” so every little nick, real or imagined, is an insult to self.” “You’ll avoid tears of (perceived) injustice by recognizing that with toddlers, equal servings aren’t enough: similar containers are also required.” “Toddlers are intrinsically egocentric, explains Klein. Until about age 3, children believe that they are the center of the universe and that everyone else thinks so too.””Magical thinking also partly explains why toddlers have trouble taking “no” for an answer, notes Klein. “

the only problem with getting them outa here is there going to become a problem in the next place they land. I like the old way of getting rid of filth, find an isolated island and dump all of em off there, let them do whatever they want to each other and leave us law abiding citizens in peace.

Multi week investigation???Oh yeah, looks like quite a big bust !! LOL… weeks investigation and they get the little peeons with no substantial weight, and asking for anyone to call and tell them more??? really ? Maybe these kids are the easy targets and the LEO S are a little on the skeered side to get the big suppliers. Think about that one, finally happening. Keep on dreaming. That is a drop in the bucket. Where is the BIG weight? Most, not all, but most cops are worried about the real reprocussions of what will come down if they really start getting the Cartel supplier. Everyone knows that to be true. Dont pat them on the back so fast… Lets see some real Drugs getting off the street not the small time user thats dealing to get their dope for free. Get a plan DTF and really make a dent, please. We really need you guys to get down and dirty on these BIG guys that are killing or youth and innocent victims. People are fed up and may decide to take matters in their own hands, which is a very stupid idea. so please get the poison with as much effort as you get herb.

Honestly, they need help. They are selling to support their habit probably. I am a former addict and treating this as a crime issue and not a mental health issue is the problem.

This was a non- violent crime.. all parties, even the people buying are concerning adults. By driving drugs even more underground and making them even more punishable just adds fuel to a fire.

Instead, say jail or treatment… MAT programs have 90%+ retention rates. I am one of those statistics. All I needed was some help..

You have forgotten to account for the collateral damage these drug addict/dealers create. How do you know that there are no violent crimes that take place, because of their drug sales? Even if you could get all the drugs you wanted at the drug store, there still would be collateral damage, that would affect your family, friends, or the public!

These people cause financial loss, health problems, injury, and even death to people they will never know. It is not just about them. At one time or the other, they made a choice!

I would like to see you add this into your flow chart so we could get the drug dealers to realize, this just isn’t about them. It’s about peoples lives they come in contact with that they change and sometimes destroy forever.

Workithealth- I agree with you. I am a big fan of rehab- have helped a few friends throughout their process. Most are now good for many years so I do believe rehab is possible. However I also think some people are beyond it and will never get good. That’s why I promote a death penalty for 3rd offense. But on those first 2 offenses we should be spending resources to help them get better and provide them with basic housing and expenses and work structure to continue getting healed and feeling some pride in getting healthier. I was dragged through the court and jail system for weed and what they did was take anything I had and then kick me to the street a year later with no job, no money, a bunch of fines and fees and no place to live. That is NOT conducive to getting somebody to break habits and associations and rebuilding a straight life! So yeah- I believe in compassion but it’s gotta have a limit.

Agents found the suspects “trafficking heroin throughout Humboldt County,”

Is that when a car pulls up, waits 10 minutes, then leaves. Then another car pulls up in that same spot and does exactly the same thing, then another car, then another car, over and over and over again. Always different cars (some stolen), and the people never get out and never go inside (unless it’s the main lower level heroin dealer).

Then a stranger stands outside with their cell phone, as if they are waiting for something, like a signal, something. Then another totally different person walks up and does exactly the same thing in the same place, then another person and another and another. Always different people and none ever go inside.

Then that happens over and over and over all day long, day after day after day.

Then hoards of their drug addict customers gather around in clusters, steal everything in sight from the hard working neighbors that live around there. Graffiti starts showing up. Then the ultimate winnebego mobile full of drugs parks itself right in front of the drug dealers selling area.

They are a mobile bunch of drug dealers,

always moving, trying to wreck one neighborhood then the next and the next.

Good job task force,

run them out of town, at least to the county line,

and keep them out of Eureka and Arcata.

Don’t put graffiti on junkies. There are plenty of people that do graf as an alternative to becoming a junkie or a loser like their peers. Other than that I’m totally with you.

I think it speaks more true to the ways of Humboldt county and the relaxed nature of the sheriff’s department. They’d rather be confiscating cash.

Where the dealers are, the neighborhood goes down.

The dealers tag the neighborhood to mark it as their territory. The tagging is affiliated with certain dealers, so the drug addicts know where to go and as attempt to “claim” as their dealer territory, to try to differentiate it from other drug dealers.

I have sympathy for the addicts, not the dealers.

Peace.

The dealers and low level dealers use tags to mark their territory. That’s what the tags are about, that and a general deterioration of the neighborhood brought on by the drug dealers bring in the graffiti.

https://www.policeone.com/gangs/articles/483668006-How-police-can-gain-intelligence-from-gang-graffiti/

The tags are all about money. How drug dealers communicate with each other. Why else would anybody do that unless it’s about money, money from dealing drugs, marking territory.

One of the taggers recently caught is known as a drug user, hope they get help, they have a terrible sickness.

But I’m sick of cleaning off their dumb tags!

I appreciate that the police have gotten a good handle on the graffiti, tags, lately, and that the police have done a good job in general.

Thanks.
