[UPDATE 5:40 p.m.: Open] Large Redwood Fell Onto Car and Across the Avenue Completely Blocking the Roadway
A large redwood tree fell into power lines, onto a vehicle and across the Avenue of Giants at mile marker 42.36 just north of Holmes Flat about 3:30 p.m., according to the CHP Traffic Incident Information Page.
Myles Cochrane, spokesperson for Caltrans, said, “[D]ispatch is telling me a large redwood tree is currently blocking both lanes of Avenue of Giants a little north of Holmes Flat Road. We’ve got crews en route.” Cochrane said there was no estimated time of reopening at this point.
Power is out to about 250 residences roughly between Redcrest and the north entrance to the Avenue of the Giants, according to PG&E’s Outage Map.
UPDATE 5:37 p.m.: A report on the states that the tree and the lines are clear of the roadway now. However, the roadway is still closed but will be open in approximately 15 minutes.
UPDATE 5:40 p.m.: Caltrans spokesperson, Myles Cochrane tells us the road is now open.

What about the people in the vehicle?
The CHP site says no injuries. I’m not sure if the people were in the car or parked and outside it.
