The following is a press release from the City of Fortuna:

On Monday, June 24, 2019 at 5:00pm, a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at Newburg Park (2700 Newburg Road, Fortuna, CA 95540) to honor the late Dennis Wendt and Roger Harwood, who tragically passed away on July 21, 2017.

Newburg Park will include the addition of “The Dennis Wendt Sports Complex” to its existing title, and a new, updated park entry sign will be unveiled displaying this addition.

One of Newburg Park’s softball fields (Softball Field #2), will be named in honor of Roger Harwood, and a sign will be unveiled with the title “Roger Harwood Field”.

An opportunity will be provided for community members to speak briefly at the dedication sites, and the ceremony will happen rain or shine.

The contributions, community service, and opportunities these individuals provided to Fortuna and the Eel River Valley, in particular to youth sports and park spaces, will not be forgotten.

The final design of the complex sign is awesome and will enhance the Newburg entrance. The parks director Camerron Hull and park staff have really done great.
Plan to be there early because of potential parking problems. Hope to see you there.
