I think it awesome that we keep on with the traditional competition. Back to our roots.. the real Wild West. I’ve been reading all the other posts here and it upsetting that people are so soft. The strongest generations started these competitions and the new weakest generations think it’s animal abuse.. go figure. Wonder why things are the way they are.

You don’t have to be vegan to be against animal torture.

I admit to having mixed feelings about rodeos. The skills on display are real and still useful but too often the show becomes more important than the husbandry. The bucking bronco or bull riding does not bother me much as there are certainly animals who love to buck even without the provocation of a human on their back. But calf roping? While still a useful skill in managing large herds, jerking a baby animal off its feet by the neck is not something I want to see as entertainment. I just don’t go anymore.

I think most rodeos have either abandoned or greatly altered the calf roping competition. It’s not my thing, but from my conversations with rodeo folk I’m convinced that they’ve taken the criticisms very seriously.

Sharpening the calf roping skills is important to those who have to use their roping skills to stop a calf before it hits the quicksand, runs off the cliff, needs a shot of antibiotics, needs a wound salved, or just about any life saving emergency that critters have a knack for needing.
It’s actually meaner to never practice and to never inspire others to practice.
The calves jump up and run away once turned lose, shaken but not broken.

yeah. We need to teach children how to do nothing but play video games, wonder if there gay at 7 and eat frozen pizza in there “safe place “ jackasaurus . How about teaching kids how to hunt, rope n wrangle, defend themselves, shoot a gun (properly), God, stand up for yourself, and cook? That’s what’s wrong with kids these days, anything that involves possibly getting “hurt” is bad. That Includes “feelings.” Some people are hell bent on abolishing American traditions and beliefs.

Well said. But, you forgot to include “and to indoctrinate every person, especially children, to fully and blindly trust every single person in any type of authority over you”. (that’s why I’m being smeared again, is because I shared the reminder to never fully blindly trust all “authority” over you. People are people, no matter the title).

I hope that one day enough people will wake up to the fact that animal abuse in rodeos is not the proper way to prove one’s manhood, and perhaps the rodeos will become a thing of the past. I’m not betting on it, though.

You all are a bunch of pusses, this shit is a part a life. Bunch of crybaby bitches.. I rode calves, bulls, roped, ran cows up the shoot for the team ropers. Then we went in on the run with some cows for beef, deer hunting…… followed it up with a nice cocktail and a joint….life is too short for all you all liberal crybaby bullshit. Life is hard, grab it by the horns and own it…..you will smile with accomplishment….. and for all those pusses that say it’s abuse. Try to wrangle the food you all eat and enjoy. Death is T- bone steak……

You tell em Jc. Hell, when I was a kid all we had to ride was goats ( dam hippy parents! Lol). But we did it anyways! Goat rodeos we called it. We would also go kill squirrels and jackrabbits. Ever try to hit a zig zagging fepher at 40 mph? That’s a good shot!

Those who have no idea of what they are talking about say it’s abuse. So ignorance is bliss, ya bunch of weak generations. The strongest Among us , with a voice, has left. So sad

Speaking of killing animals. Humans are animals and we kill millions of us. Like nearly 59,000 nice young men average 19.5 and 3.2 million innocent animal civilians. And that was just one rodeo. We killed our own since the beginning of the country. And like rodeos we are still doing it today and most likely tomorrow and for the next thousand years. And like rodeos we love abusing living animals. In fact, every four years or so we elect leaders who lead us to places all over the world and hold rodeos for abusing we animals. And the national rodeos invent saddles and ropes and other big huge things that people ride or launch or sail in and they can abuse thousands of us in one second or less. In fact, we have rodeo equipment that can completely submit and abuse hundreds of thousands of animals in less than one second. So rodeos are very special events for us to use any means available to suppress and control animals and and even kill animals that includes even us. That is so cool is it not???

Apparently your accurate post didn’t have much of an impression with veterans who served in Vietnam and came back home stinking of Agent Orange and without one reason to be proud to serve. Maybe because Vietnam was a NO-WIN war and the only thing veterans could feel good about was Military Corporations making billions of taxpayer dollars and the other country burying 3.2 million of their citizens and dealing with more millions dying from prostate cancer and Hodgkin’s lymphoma plus repairing all the physical damage we left to them. Uncle Sam wants you to “Go” America and die in a foreign country.

This is what this side of our country was founded and settled on. How can anyone disrespect someones job, when their own 9-5 isn’t half as hard as an hour on the ranch. The events in a rodeo are practical applications working in the fields, feeding all these folks here, well, maybe not the pasty, zero protein diet veges’, but the rest of the 88% of the population wouldn’t be eating, or here, without these hardworking heroes. Good work guys!

I knew the screaming Lib would bring up natives. Of course you would go that route, for one I’m native, and so are a lot of ranchers, who work to feed america. You wouldn’t be here otherwise. Are you that disappointed with your kushy country life?

Your comparing killing humans to a rodeo? PS. All these “immigrants” and “seekers” you want in here are huge on rodeos! It’s part of there lifestyle. Ever been to a Central American bullfight or Mexican rodeo? I have. It’s brutal compared to this watered down American stuff.

If calf roping was taken out of rodeo how are kids gonna learn to rope cows on their cattle ranches? Not every kid Is gonna grow up to be a vegan. {edit] I’m a young cowgirl and I don’t see abuse. cows get roped 1 time each. It’s not bad. So shut the fuck up and leave these young kids that are actually going outside and doing a sport that they love, alone.

You have it backwards- kids learn to rope on ranches and show off their skills at the rodeo. The rodeo is for show, the ranch for work. Ranchers also castrate calves, shoot crippled animals and butcher but it does not mean that competitive castration is a competition I want to see for entertainment. There are real cowboys and then there are rodeo cowboys . They are not always the same.

If you want a diverse society then people need to be allowed diverse interests. If you don’t like pot, don’t smoke it – if you don’t like rodeo, don’t watch it. Simple as that

Yeah I’m done with these liberals and their so called values. Teaching a boy to dominate things is just part of their learning to be a man. Dominatin’ things is just what a man does… after all a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do, otherwise he wouldn’t gotta do it. Right?

Seems to me that the people getting the most upset about what they perceive as an attack on their right to abuse animals, are really deep down inside, on some level, aware that what they do and what they advocate are not very cool things to be about. The more they swagger and pose, the more I sense they question their own manhood. Over-compensation, anyone? Watch out, defenseless animals, here comes another human with something to prove.

Way back in history and ranches of today riding, roping, cowdogging is a way of life. Rodeos are what people enjoyed as entertainment and gave the Cowboys an opportunity to share their skills. If you don’t like the sport don’t attend the game. If football is too tough for you, don’t go to watch the abuse people impact on each other. Spelling bees bring sweat and tension to their components. For god’s sake do not attend a concert where performers go through treacherous routines to satisfy the customers. Torture is what people put themselves through to entertain you There are requirements for rodeo livestock owners to make sure their animals are in good shape to entertain you. They have invested a lot of time and money in those animals and do not want them hurt. They are worked with and trained as any other event. Get a grip people.
I will also add that way back when I was a young child we attended the Garberville rodeo and it was an exciting event that brought the community together when little else did.
I embrace any criticism you throw my way, however, I will let you know it will not impact me. Ride on!!
