City of Eureka Closing Gap in Waterfront Drive Between H Street and I Street

The City of Eureka is excited to announce a ceremony to break ground for the construction of the Waterfront Drive Connection, Phase II project. The City has been planning and pursuing funding to close the gap in Waterfront Drive between H Street and I Street for decades. In 1997, a Project Study Report was completed as an initial step in project programming. Last year, the City was able to acquire the funding to make the construction phase budget whole. Now a ground-breaking ceremony will kick off commencement of construction activities for this summer, with project completion planned for later in the year.

The roadway will consist of twelve (12) foot wide travel lanes and five (5) foot wide bike lanes in each direction. A ten (10) foot wide sidewalk will be provided along the northern side of the roadway. The widened sidewalk and bike lanes will connect to the Eureka Boardwalk and F Street Plaza on west side and the Adorni Trail on the east side, providing intertie for the Eureka Waterfront Trail. The project closes gaps in bicycling and walking infrastructure to support improved access from Eureka’s neighborhoods to its Old Town Waterfront area. The project will provide critical connections to the Waterfront Trail a locally, regionally and state-wide significant component of the California Coastal Trail.
