Donors Step Forward to Help Southern Humboldt Little League After Devastating Theft
On the evening on May 29, a basket containing $1000 set aside to be deposited for the Southern Humboldt Little League and personal items of the treasurer including her wallet was taken. Yesterday, we posted about the loss and the League appealed for the person who had taken it to return it.
Today, Rex Bohn, First District Supervisor, acting as a spokesperson for Redwood Field Committee Inc which he founded, said the organization would cover the entire loss.
Bohn said that supporting youth was one of the most important ways to build community. He added that any other donations brought in should be used to provide whatever was needed including safety equipment.
Alyssa Deleon, the snack snack coordinator for the Southern Humboldt Little League, was delighted. “That’s so nice of them!” she exclaimed. She went on to say that the group had received another donation from the Coast Central Credit Union* for $250.
Unfortunately, the group has not had any further leads to help them locate the basket but with these two donations, the group will be able to continue to host the 12-Year-Old All Star team tournament.
If anyone has any information, please contact the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office at (707) 923-2761.
If anyone would still like to help the small youth centered organization as it has suffered at the hands of vandals this year, the Little League has an account at the Community Credit Union of Southern Humboldt and their account number is 115021.
Note: An earlier version of this story did not identify correctly the donor of the $250.

The individual who was responsible for the money should replace it. Wear the hat of responsibility like a real adult.
The money wasn’t stolen. It was negligently abandoned.
Stolen is stolen. I bet you’d be singing a different tune ~ if anybody trusted you with group money ~ and somebody stole it from you.
Amen
Bingo (like amen only you win $).
Ditto the amen!
Ditto
If I left that money in a parking lot then I wouldn’t be trustworthy, just like the little league treasurer.
Everyone makes mistakes. Part of being trustworthy is taking responsibility for them.
You have no idea how I would handle it if I were responsible. Just because you would play victim doesn’t mean I would.
Sounds like you don’t volunteer.
Except perhaps your opinion.
🕯🌳Well at least someone stepped up and covered the loss. 👑👑👑👑👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👏👏👏
Yes he did wille. And Rex has my vote! (Waiting for liberal backlash comment. Waaaiiitt for it…….).
Next time.
Thank you to Rex Bohn and The Redwood Field Commitie for donating after this unfortunate loss and for noting the importance of the youth of a community!
Thank you also to the individuals that gave from their own resources and cared so much.
Thank you to all the volunteers that take hours of their time to give to the children of this community. And I totally understand how easy it would have been to be distracted for a few minutes after volunteering and doing many tasks.
Much love and respect to all the givers..
I’ll second this shout out.
Thank you for the respectful words it gets hard to read some of these bad things that people say when we’re all human and make mistakes.
Again let’s support our Little League and the children who attend it.
Your cash handling policy is broken. Have you acknowledged that important fact yet?
Now change your policy and require 2 people to be finance handlers.
If it needs to be deposited that day, that afternoon before anyone leaves/closes up-then do it .
Full possession is your mantra, and your hands and eyes should never lose sight or touch of your group’s investment and responsibility. Change treasurer immediately, and find an ocd person who will go above and beyond in protecting your cash. Otherwise, you are doomed to have a repeat “loss of cash” by whomever.
Amen
I feel bad for everyone involved in this miss placed (first) bag then picked up by who knows who or what. My problem is calling this a theft. Miss handling first then a theft if I read this correctly. So happy for all the money for the youth has been replaced.
Everyone complaining from the peanut gallery should step up and volunteer to be a co-treasurer.
AMEN!!!!
The pay is $1000. Not bad for a “volunteer”. 😉
We have a motto in our fire chiefs office wall. It says “ No good deed goes unpunished “.
