Veterans Perform Gun Salute and Give Flag to Widow of Dean Earley, Alderpoint’s Unofficial Mayor
On Sunday, a memorial was held at the Alderpoint Fire Hall for Vietnam veteran and Purple Heart recipient Dean Earley, known by some as the unofficial mayor of Alderpoint.
Earley, who was born in Eureka in 1946 but lived most of his life in the small town of Alderpoint in Southern Humboldt where he was the water maintenance man for many years.
An expert pool player, Earley was well-known for his skills and won many a tournament.
Local veterans honored vet with a firearm salute. Then Hank Toborg, Commander of VFW Post 6354, presented Dean Earley’s widow, Joyce Earley with a folded flag.
