About 1:20 today, a procession of law enforcement and firefighters headed south from the Humboldt County Courthouse to the Riverlodge in Fortuna to pay tribute to Humboldt County Correctional Deputy Cody Hale who died of cancer. A memorial service was held today at 2 p.m.

Hale worked at the Correctional Department for around 15 years. About two years ago he was diagnosed with cancer and passed away this April.

In a statement, the Sheriff’s Office said, “His quirks are what made him unique, from his loath[ing] of mayonnaise, to his punishment of oranges, his love for fishing even though he didn’t eat fish and his endless search to prove that Bigfoot is real.”

That desocrated American flag is corrupt and racist. Has nothing to do with dead cops.

The thin blue line flag has everything to do with police officers that have passed away. Your comment is not wanted or needed the Ef popo!

Its the US version of the NAZI flag:

The “Thin Blue Line” stands for law enforcement’s separation of order from chaos, or, as Oxford Dictionaries describes, it’s a reference to police, “in the context of maintaining order during unrest.”

Yet, during the Charlottesville protests last weekend — a screaming example of mayhem— the proud symbol of police appeared amid a sea of white supremacists.

A black-and-white American flag with a thin blue line across its center appeared among the Confederate flags toted by the white supremacists and neo-Nazis during the violent protests.

At least one maker of the flag condemned its use in Charlottesville.

“We reject, in the strongest possible terms, any association of our flag with racism, hatred, and bigotry,” said Thin Blue Line USA in a statement. “To use it in such a way tarnishes what it and our nation believe in. The thin blue line flag stands for the sacrifice law enforcement officers of this nation make each day. We ask our nation to hold faith with those that defend the thin blue line.”

I knew Cody from when he worked at Razursharp, his family’s saw shop in Eureka. You could always count on him for a sincerely friendly greeting and a story swapping session (actually a family trait, I’ve come to learn). He’ll be missed.

You echo our sentiments and memories exactly, Dave K. This is one loving family full of joy and laughter.

His family was so proud of Cody when he joined the force.

Now, our hearts, love, and respect go out to his family for the loss of this fine young man.

Have some respect Burns and ftp. The thin blue line honors those who have served you and our community in a few short years, in more ways than your life time, most likely… as we stand united. Don’t bring your blind politics to a memorial. Open those narrow slight minds a bit more, then maybe “merica”?! will have a chance. RIP Cody, and peace be with the Hale family.

I agree. It was nice to see so many agencies come together to honor this man. I got stuck in the short traffic jam and honestly got a little choked up watching the procession. I was able to see Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, Eureka PD, Arcata PD, BLM Ranger, Blue Lake Tribal PD, Fortuna PD, and even Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office. Perhaps instead of bad mouthing and belittling law enforcement all the time, maybe we can all actually learn something from them about compassion and solidarity? Rest in Peace Deputy Hale, you no longer have to suffer.

Thia guy, it is time for you to shut your nasty mouth. Have some respect for our law enforcement officer’s. Try being a jail guard with no weapon, and a bunch of punks all around you. Bet you would not last five minutes before running for your life.

His humor and life was as rich as mayonnaise and his heart was as big as Bigfoot.
