16-Year-Old Dead in Crash Near Trinity Lake
Press release from the California Highway Patrol:
On May 10, 2019, at approximately 1400 hours, a 2003 Nissan 350Z coupe, being driven by juvenile from Weaverville, was traveling eastbound on Trinity Dam Boulevard, approximately 1.5 miles east of Buckeye Ridge Road. For reasons still under investigation, the Nissan traveled off the north roadway edge and continued in a northeasterly direction up a steep embankment. The Nissan then rolled over onto its roof, coming back onto the roadway. The Nissan kept sliding in an easterly direction, coming to rest on its roof, in the middle of Trinity Dam Boulevard, facing in a westerly direction.
As a result of the collision, the juvenile driver sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A passenger, also a juvenile from Weaverville, was able to self-extricate and was transported to Mercy Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
The collision remains under investigation by the Trinity River Area CHP office. Alcohol or drugs are not suspected of having played a part in the collision.

This is so so SAD … ANOTHER CHILD DRIVER DEAD.. I thought the driving age changed.. my heart felt sympathies..
RIP. Condolences to family and friends. That’s a pretty fast car for a sixteen year old.
RIP young man, and I hope the passenger will be fine. So sorry for the family and friends.
The passenger will never be the same after this. Losing your friend so young and actually being there and seeing it really hurts young people minds and hearts. I hope his family can get him into mental health immediately, maybe even sedate him for a while. Teen drivers are generally pretty scary. We made our kids drive with permits till they were 18.
What an awful reality for their parents. My sister got this call in 2017 nothing ever seems right again.
Martin – Where in this report do you see that the driver was a young man? “Juvenile” can also mean female. It’s not just teenage boys who get into accidents. It used to be true that boys were far more likely to have an accident, but unfortunately girls are catching up in those statistics. So very sad; condolences to the friends and family.
The written press release didn’t include that information but a form included with the article did. I’ve included it now. I should have from the first.
Listen to the scanner. Do you know what they are there Mr. Picky?
Prayers to the teen that had to see her/his friend like that, prayers to the family of the deceased too, especially the parents.
A crying shame literally, another young life snuffed out way too soon!!! Condolences to his family!!!
Experience means everything when driving powerful vehicles. May the victim rest in peace.
🕯🌳Prayers and condolences to both families because the one that survived will have to live with that image the rest of there life.
I was just thinking of his mother. Must have been a rotten Mother’s Day for her!
What was he doing driving around at 16? I thought the driving age was 18…
I hope his friend recovers.
But what was the kid doing driving around – even on back roads!
He should not have been driving with passengers under 20 years old. These laws exist for good reasons.
“During the first 12 months after you are licensed, you cannot drive between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. and cannot transport passengers under 20 years old, unless accompanied by a California-licensed parent or guardian, a California-licensed driver 25 years old or older, or a licensed or certified driving instructor.”
Slow the heck down. Follow the laws. Turn off the cell phone.
My deepest condolences to all his loved ones. R.I.P. young man & may the spirit of love overwhelm the spirit of horror for the young friend, for the rest of his life.
Such pain for the driver’s family and friends. I’m so sorry for your loss.
