On Mondays we plan on extending our flagging hours to 6pm. On Tuesday through Thursday we plan to start work at 6am and work until 6pm. And on Fridays we are planning on starting work at 6am.”

This is getting on my nerves. Mercer Frasers own negligence has delayed this project, apparently interminably.

“Getting on my nerves”.

~me too. Perhaps because i live on 36 – the New Railway Trail plan.

I see the FEDERAL Highway groupies got in. 36 is state.

Public private don’t mix.

On the 299 buckhorn realignment mess that took years out of people lives they did not put shelves onto their mountain cuts.

I said this 4 years ago; I said they would need closures and repairs every winter and springtime….and it is so.

Likely that Caltrans Surveyors and Engineers okayed it all, and they were the authority, but whoever had 5 minutes experience on an a machine should have seen it coming.

Now,each year, the cuts are being regraded, recut, resupported and redone.

Maybe they did see it coming. Maybe they just like springtime work.

Year-after-year full closures should be outlawed.

Yup. The Mountains are moving. Pushed up by earthquakes… and down by gravity.

It would be nice if Mercer Fraser or Caltrans would post an estimated date of completion. It would be even better if this date were soon.

I drive this part of 36 all the time and it’s in a lot better shape now than most of the Mattole Road (Wildcat), the Zenia and several other roads in the region.

They have to reengineer the project because it’s falling down the mountain . Probably take an extra couple years because of bad engineering

Guess you missed the Federal Highway Administration part of the flyer. NOT CALTRANS.

It’ll be nice when it’s done. That’s all I can say.

Driving that part of 36 in the past has been like playing Russian roulette! This is a necessary improvement.

Actually, driving that part of Hwy 36 in the past was a blast! Dipping into turns and riding the white line through them was just way too much fun that has now been totally ruined.

They are barely halfway through with the road. For those of you that think this construction will be finished this year, I have some swamp land you might be interested in buying.

When it’s all done, you can expect increased traffic. I’m sorry, but I don’t see how this is a necessary improvement.

I learned to drive on 36. Going over South Fork Mtn when it was essentially one lane (reverse up a hill until a turnout so the logging truck could pass). I remember the curve in the above picture very well. It’s served me well, learning on 36.

I taught my son to drive on 36. The brakes caught fire just past that turn. I used my coffee to put the fire out. He bought new brakes.

Angela, I remember from Mad River to Forest Glen too. If you were going down hill and saw water on the road you knew there was a logging truck ahead using water to cool the brakes.

Although needed, I used to love to drive this road with all of it’s twists and turns. I spent my childhood riding in the back of pickups from Fortuna to Ruth Lake and have such great memories of those summer days. Once I learned to drive, it was one of my favorite roads to take from Fortuna to Susanville. It won’t be the same, but hopefully it will be safer.

In the main post it states Monday through Thursday, towards the end of post it includes Friday, is it the same closed hours on Fridays?

Our property is right in between this closure. Last year was miserable, especially since I commute from eureka. We all know the feds engineered it like it was in the middle of the desert. I mean they have to have a reason to take all our money over and over and over right 🤷🏼‍♂️. It’s such a drag, we all know it’s going to be an ongoing project for the next 2-3 years. They can’t even fix the road before Larabee valley, I can’t imagine what they have spent on that drainage ditch they just keep filling with asphalt.

I remember 36 being gravel from Carlotta to the Van Duzen River Road. Now I come in from Red Bluff.
