Local Man Crushed by Trailer in Accident

feature icon HCSO Humboldt County Sheriff's Office new iconYesterday, 67-year-old Robert Wayne Smith, died in a tragic accident in the Briceland/Whitethorn area. According to Samantha Karges, spokesperson for the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, around 1 p.m. her department was called to investigate a death at a residence in the area of Briceland Thorne Road near Huckleberry Hill.

“Upon investigation deputies learned that Mr. Smith was a contractor and was doing a roofing job at his residence,” Karges explained. “Mr. Smith was utilizing a hydraulic trailer which appears to have malfunctioned in the upright position. Mr. Smith was attempting to repair the trailer when the trailer fell onto him.”

Deputies are investigating this case as an accidental death, Karges said.

Our hearts go out to the family of Mr. Smith.

Not much to investigate… And it’ll have a big sticker on it saying to never, ever work under it without supporting the bed, just to make sure no one tries suing the manufacturer.
