Letter Writers Thank Humboldt State Academic Senate for Resolution Rejecting the Administration’s Actions in Regards to KHSU
Welcome to our letters to the editor/opinion section. To submit yours for consideration, please send to [email protected]. Please consider including an image to be used–either a photograph of you or something applicable to the letter. However, an image is not necessary for publication.
Remember opinions expressed do not necessarily reflect that of Redheaded Blackbelt nor have we checked the letters for accuracy.
This letter was written in response to Humboldt State University Academic Senate voting to reject the direction change at KHSU that saw the end of local programming and staff. (For more on that vote, see here.)
To the members of the Humboldt State University Academic Senate, thank you.
To the following members of the Academic Senate, thank you for your demonstration of integrity and strength of character. The resolution presented, the stand you all have taken demonstrates courage, collaboration and commitment to community.
As we all know what has happened in regards to KHSU is systemic to a problem bigger than just the community radio station.
By taking the stand and making the statement you have put leadership on notice that we stand together for what is the good for all.

The good women who signed this letter are members of KHSU’s Citizens’ Advisory Board (CAB), a group of community members that the station is required to maintain, but which has now been ‘disbanded’ by retiring HSU President Rossbacher. CAB members work as volunteers who’s job is to hear and reflect the ‘voices’ of the community.
For those who don’t follow the link above to the tally of the votes, the resolution was supported by 21 Senate members, while only 2 opposed it, and 5 abstained. So the vote was overwhelming!
Now that the gutting of KHSU has been opposed by the HSU Senate, as well as our current and retired US Congressional members, please reach out to the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors. Ask them for a resolution, on behalf of thousands of their constituents who have lost a vital source of (sometimes safety based) information, to condemn the move.
Let us work together to reverse the affects of the shameful acts that were perpetrated on OUR community on the Northwest’s 411!
