North Coast baseball fans were left stunned on Saturday and wondering what exactly is going on at Eureka High with the news that the school has fired a second baseball head coach in less than a year with absolutely no explanation.First-year head coach Jackie Christensen was informed early on Saturday that he was being let go and told nothing more than the fact the program was going in a different direction.

“I don’t know what I did,” said Christensen, who had his team on a seven-game winning streak and in contention for a Big 5 championship.

Last year, head coach Jeff Giacomini was let go despite leading the team to back-to-back league championships.

Eureka High Athletic Director Kristie Christiansen did not return a phone call to Humboldt Sports to explain the decision, indicating only through an email that assistant AD Eric Giacone would take over for the remainder of the season.

The Major problem with Eureka City Schools is the Superintendent. For those interested in how ECS treats their blue collar employees, they are the second lowest paid school district in the state. But He is loved by the school board because he charms them with with their names on plaques and new buildings.

Also every parent should be concerned with their “stellar” record on bullying because they regularly throw away reports, ignore problems and doctor the numbers every way possible to meet federal outcome measures. I have witnessed brutal assaults by elementary students of which the victims parents are not notified and the victim is placed back in the proximity of their perpetrator within minutes or at most within 24 hours. This could be minimized if the School Recourse Officer would take some sort of action when students & staff are assaulted, but they are too busy chasing bearclaws and butterflies.

The blue collar union is only available to take dues and complain no one shows up to meetings so they are never any help either. Until they are needed at the district office to have weekly pizza, meat & cheese trays and vegis.

Good people can not be a part of what is going on so they walk away from their jobs which hurts the students sense of continuity and challenges their gauge of what is right & wrong.

I can’t really buy a “brutal” assault” where the parents are deliberately not notified by school officials and they don’t notice anything to ask. If you witnessed it, did you report something? The only time I witnessed a student assaulting another student, I stayed with the student until she had called her parents and they came to pick her up. After I broke it up.

I heard from a parent of young man , formerEHS student and talented baseball player from few years ago that she wouldn’t allow her son play on the team because the coach was an abusive bully who’s coaching style was to scream profanities at his players if they made a mistake.

“She wouldn’t let here son play”. Feel sorry for the kid who’s parent made the decision for him. Eureka lockdown, must be a lot of meth and heroin up in those parts.

Come on Eureka High, why did you fire coach Christensen? I have only heard nice things about him from some of the kids that play ball. Maybe you could find a homeless guy that will work for free, right up your alley!!!

The “henchman of justice”‘s comment on the linked article is particularly amusing/disgusting.

Major problems with EHS sports. They fired a good softball coach for taking a stand against girls that quit and then wanted back on the team. Then they hired the worst coach ever. She verbally assaulted and humiliated a good portion of the team and generally acted like a spoiled brat. It took a parent uprising to get rid of her. Someone decent needs to take over as Athletic Director.

The current siftball coaches at ehs are amazing people. Im not sure i read an early comment correctly belittling them and perhaps comment was directed at a previous coaching staff, but the current coaches are solid as can be and deserve nothing but praise.

Yes, current staff is excellent. They took over when previous coach was let go.
