This map from FlightRadar shows the path of the helicopter to pick up the injured deputy. Note: the red X indicates approximate location of deputy when he was located.

About 2:15 p.m., a deputy was injured in a remote area off of Hwy 299 while searching for one of two suspects who had fled from a crashed vehicle that was being pursued by officers. Officers located the injured deputy who had a cell phone but lost his radio during the fall when he was injured. A helicopter was dispatched to Berry Summit pick up the injured man and take him to the hospital.

The incident began with victims calling and reporting a vehicle with armed suspects on Bair Road, according to the scanner. We believe the suspects stole a generator but that is unclear from information coming over the scanner. Though two other sources confirmed that the generator had been stolen from Redwood Valley Indian Field Ridge area.

Officers with the California Highway Patrol and deputies with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office located the suspect vehicle, a red Toyota Tacoma with a tow behind generator just before 1 p.m. The suspects were fleeing westbound on Bair Road towards 299. As officers began pursuing, one of the suspects apparently threw a firearm out the window because an officer yelled over the scanner that there was a “shotgun in the road.” The deputy that was later injured stopped and secured the firearm and then resumed pursuit.

Soon afterward, the suspect vehicle crashed and two suspects fled on foot. Officers attempted to capture the fleeing suspects.

They eventually took one suspect, the passenger, into custody near Old Dolly Varden Road, about 1:50 p.m. But while still searching for the driver, a deputy, the one that had secured the firearm, slipped and fell, losing his radio in the creek, and getting a head injury. A helicopter came to Berry Summit to pick up the injured deputy.

As of 3 p.m., the driver had not been located as far as we could ascertain. We are unable to reach anyone able to speak about the incident at the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office by publication time.

Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available.

My guess would be the tow behind generator was the stolen property in question.

People who steal generators are most likely going to trade it for drugs or sell it for drug money, not use it for a grow. Idiot!

Cannibus related crime is up, not just here but Colorado results are in and it bad. Making weed ” state legal ” has done nothing but increase store prices. Attorney General said last week that he is not going to sign the bill to protect states, causing quite a stir in the weed stock market. Drug are bad umkayyyy.

Good point… Wouldn’t make much sense to steal a 10k generator but lose a 20k truck.

I AGREE IM USALLY NOT ONE TO JUMP TO ASSUMPTIONS BUT I WOULD BET THE FARM THAT IT WAS A COUPLE A OF DOWN RIVERS FINEST AND THE COP IS LUCKY HES ALIVE . They dip out and run so they can get the police right where they want them and thats just what happens. The funny thing is that all the whisper watt tow behinds have on star or low Jack gps installed from the factory. So if the fuzz had half a brain they would just let these idiots lead em right to there spot or the dope mans house then bust all the dirtbags with multiple charges and wouldn’t be putting the public’s life’s at risk by chasing them and try n to make the media

It’s not weed related. It’s this thieving bastard from Mack. They steal shit everyday. They need to be put away instead of always released.

It’s not weed and it’s not Native Americans. It’s White Punks on Dope
Heroin. It’s why they steal.

Whisperwatt MQ25, great generator. Probably the most reliable generator ever built. Isuzu powered! You can blow up a 20 lighter with that badboy!

Or you can have a soul and not pollute the environment to grow weed like a selfish douche. Happy Earth day to all the self-absorbed indoor growers, thanks for making the apocalypse just a little bit sooner.

one of these dudes stole a dirt bike in Mck, couldn’t get it started so decided to push it along the side of Murray road up and over the hill to the far side of Fieldbrook. the owner of the bike followed the tire tracks on the shoulder and recovered his bike in the woods by the known drug compound. another dirt bike victim, same thieves, also recovered one of two stolen bikes at this same location. this location needs to be dealt with and these desperate punks on heroin need jail time followed by GPS tracking probation.

It is definitely William Mattingly from McKinleyville. His truck. They steal shit together every day. Both losers on drugs that need to learn a tough lesson.

The sheriffs were at his Dad’s house in Fieldbrook the morning before the generator theft and crash. Hopefully they are serious about getting him incarcerated and away from the rest of us.

the problem and argument lies with the fact that the google earth image of the tweaker compound on Fieldbrook road that these two tweaks are associated with has two typical tweaker style (broken and needing major repair) greenhouses on it. but I agree they aren’t growers, they are just thieving heroin addicts on a run.
