Smiles, Flowers as Three Honored by SoHum Soroptimist
“We have three awards we give yearly and 2 scholarships,” Vice President Vonne Thomas explained. “At our awards luncheon last Thursday, we gave our “Live Your Dream Award” to Katalina Prince. She is a single mom currently enrolled at Humboldt State University.” Prince received the education and training award which has an attached scholarship of $1,000.
The youngest recipient was Mimi LeClair. “Mimi received our “Violet Richardson Award,” Thomas said. “She is the secretary of the 4-H Club. She is the assistant coach for the Miranda Junior High Cheer Team volunteering about 300 hours per season. She is also in the Interact Club which did canned food and sock drives for the homeless. She received $100 for her and the 4-H Club [received $100].”The third award went to Jeanette Hurst. “For 10 years she has worked with the Humboldt Area Foundation, directing funds from the Women and Children Fund,” Thomas explained. “She directs “Volunteer Organizations Assisting in Disasters” (VOAD”) and she is the Executive Director of the 211 Humboldt Call Center. Our Award to her is the “Ruby Award.” It is to honor women who make extraordinary efforts on behalf of other women.”
