Willits Man Gets Punctured Lung and Other Injuries After Colliding With Semi and Pickup

Press release from the California Highway Patrol:

On 03/19/2019 at approximately 0750·hours,  [Duane] Roork was driving a 2009 Toyota Corolla…westbound on SR-20 just east of Lakeshore Blvd. at approximately 50 mph.[Jose] Gomez was driving a 2012 Kenworth T660… eastbound on SR-20 just east of Lakeshore Blvd., at approximately 45 mph.[Thomas] York was driving a 2012 Dodge Ram westbound SR-20 just east of Lakeshore Blvd., at approximately 50 mph directly behind the Toyota.

For reasons yet to be determined, [Roork] allowed [his Toyota Corolla] to veer across the solid double yellow lines onto the eastbound lane of SR-20 directly in front of [the semi]. [Gomez] attempted to avoid [the Corolla] by turning to the right, but was not able to avoid colliding with the front of [it].

Following this collision, [the Corolla] was pushed across onto the westbound lane and collided with [the Dodge Ram]. [The Corolla] came to rest on its wheels on the north shoulder of SR-20, [the semi] came to rest on its wheels on the north embankment of SR-20, and V-3 came to rest on the north shoulder of SR-20. [All three drivers] were wearing their seatbelt at the time of the collision.

[Roork] sustained major injuries as a result of the collision and was airlifted by REACH air ambulance to Vacaville Kaiser Hospital.

[The semi driver and the Dodge driver] and sustained minor injuries and were treated on scene.

It appears that fatigue was a contributing factor in the cause of this collision. The cause of the collision [though] is still under investigation.
