Man Last Seen in Fortuna Still Not Found After River Search
A search of the area near the Eel River where the Oldsmobile of a missing man was located turned up nothing, according to Samantha Karges of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. She said they are still attempting to locate Ryan Grater who was reportedly last seen on February 11. His vehicle was found abandoned north of Weott along the Avenue of the Giants on February 12.
“We’re asking the public if they have seen him or heard from him since the last time he was seen to contact us,” Karges said.
Karges said that one person reported that they had seen Grater right before he went missing and he expressed that he was in fear for his life but that they and his wife believe this might be part of his mental health issues. “He was experiencing some paranoia,” Karges explained. “Right now his disappearance is not considered suspicious.”
It is believed that Grater may have made a phone call from the area north of Weott where his vehicle was left, if anyone spoke with or texted with him recently, the Sheriff’s Office would like to speak with you at (707) 445-7251.

🕯To bad this crowd doesn’t like common sense. Nobody’s answered what hotel he stayed at in Fortuna? Could there have been problems at home with him and his wife,and before everyone gets pissed off these are questions that police have probably already asked?

I pray that they will find Grater safe. If he is involved with drug activity just about anything is possible, but I sure as hell hope not.
🕯Nobody has mentioned anything about drugs. Was the car out of gas? And how big of a search did they do of the EEL,when I seen it, it was moving pretty rapidly things could get swept pretty fast and far?

Missing man might also have been correct and in his right mind.
Instead of judging others, how about showing some compassion and diligence.

This description wasn’t meant to bash him, it’s meant to be accurate and objective. As someone who is acquainted to the missing man, I know that he is capable of delusional thinking, unfortunately. It’s important to give facts because if he is found, he may still be delusional and in need of mental health services. This has nothing to do with putting him down, and I’m sure if the article is describing him as possibly delusional, then there’s probably a reason. When he was last with family or friends he may have been that way, and is yet another reason to be concerned about his whereabouts. There is, of course, a chance that he is in his right mind, but I doubt it. Just wanted to shed some light and assure people here that the article is not meant to put down Ryan.

There’s that abandoned resort in the woods on the south end of Redcrest that has several building still standing. It’s a few miles north but maybe worth checking if they haven’t already.

If you’re talking about Daly Ranch it’s state park property, work is being done there. I’m sure they would have noticed someone there by now.
Mom-I will comb the woods in that area myself this weekend. I hate to ask but does he use alcohol or any hard drugs? Is he a woodsman? Experienced hiker? Has he ever done this before? I just want to put myself in his mind. Anything I can do to help find him. Would you like me to accompany you in a search? Is there any sort of search and rescue involved? I’ve had a missing family member before. I also understand mental health issues very well. I just want to actually help. I’ll put up flyers if you’d like

I don’t know the missing man myself, just very familiar with the area his car was found. Buildings in Daly Ranch were being boarded in the fall to discourage squatting as there’s new effort to turn that property into a usable day use area. Not sure if they’re still out there as it has been quiet lately. Maybe a call to the sheriff or state parks ranger with your suggestion would also be helpful!

Yes that’s the place. I know it’s state property, but every time I’ve been there it’s been deserted, so it was just a thought that it may be a place to hunker down. I didn’t know that work is being done there at the moment. Good luck Mom

First post. How come no one has questioned how exactly they knew the call was placed. I will enlighten you all. Stingray. I recall swbank talking about them a long time ago… Tho figuring as how the missing person most likely used an app such as signal messenger the meta data would only show up as a ip relay rendering the data Limited tho able to see a track of data off a stingray.. I know for a fact they drop any and all cases compelling any release of anything related to stingray usage. That’s why there is such little verifiable knowledge of there use.

none of the articles I’ve read about Ryan’s disappearance has mentioned k9s. why have the dogs not been brought in to even try to find his smell?!
It’s crazy that there are not more updates. It’s also kind of shitty the state went through all they did to find those girls, but not for ryan. His wife is worried sick and he has a young son who is going to grow up without his father. You would think there would be more of a surge for help.

Do we need to set up an “Adopt a Missing Person” club and start sending cards to the Sheriff’s office on a monthly basis for every person we adopt, to keep the person fresh on the top list of priorities?
Is it correct to assume the office has a special division for missing person’s and that they have to report in daily, weekly or monthly? Is it correct to assume the office in charge has too many cases to handle? Is it correct to assume that we could take up a ‘see something, say something’ approach by putting up fresh flyers every month instead of relying on an overburdened office to accomplish what we can? (with permission, of course).
What are some of the ways that we as a community can help without hindering?
I think without any leads the sheriffs department just shuffle people down into voluntarily missing. Please consider this permission to keep sharing Ryan on social media, hanging fliers wherever you feel. Be assured that those that love Ryan have not forgotten about him and his presence is missed constantly.
