Housing Element Update Begins; Public Meeting in Redway Thursday, Feb. 28th

Humboldt County Seal 2017 feature

Humboldt County is updating the Housing Element of its General Plan.  State laws mandate regular updates to every county’s plan detailing where housing can be built to accommodate people of all income levels.  In 2018, new laws mandated planning departments as well as utilities, allow “granny units” be built in residential zones with a minimum of unnecessary costs as a way for homeowners to build rental housing affordable to people with very low incomes.

Humboldt County’s next Housing Element Update is due in August.  Planning Commission Hearing will be held as early as May, so public input is currently being sought.  A Community Workshop is scheduled for Thursday the 28th of February for Southern Humboldt.

The following is a press release from the County of Humboldt:

Community Workshop

To discuss Humboldt County’s
2019 Housing Element Update

Housing Element Workshop in Redway

                               Purpose of the Meeting

* Review new allowances for second units and other state laws,
* Gather public input on existing and future housing needs,
* Discuss what policies and programs should be included in the
   Housing Element, and
*Provide information about the next steps in the update process.

Please attend a workshop on February 28th at Redway Elementary School to discuss
and provide your input about current and future housing in the unincorporated areas
of the County. The Housing Element identifies existing and projected housing needs,
and establishes goals, policies, standards and implementation measures for the
preservation, improvement, and development of housing in the unincorporated areas
of the county. State law requires cities and counties to have Housing Elements as part
of their general plans, and to update them on a regular basis. This particular update is
due to the state in August 2019.
Background information can be found at the Planning and Building Department at 3015
H Street, Eureka, California, and on the County’s website at
https://humboldtgov.org/2448/2019-Housing-Element.

🕯This is really good information Kelley and well founded, but most of the people needed it or wanting to speak out or up about the issues might not be able to make it. So if they could maybe open up a input web accessible to the general public for questions it would be great. Just saying.

The County would never do that. The County really doesn’t want this. A new requirement was signed in to law by then governor Brown as a way to ease the housing shortage, allowing any residential property to add a mother in law type unit to their property, without the county requiring an expensive variation permit (which can be denied). The counties is this state are in the business of making money off their residents; cheap housing doesn’t fit in to that scenario. If it did, we would see tiny houses popping up all over the place, and land use regulations allowing very small parcels for them. Imagine tiny house subdivisions. Ten acres split in to 20 parcels, allowing 1/4 acre for each owner, and five acres common green belt/garden areas, selling for less than $50,000 each. Its not only millennia’s that would be attracted to this type of living.

Well said.
Besides, how often do we hear the excuses ‘there’s nothing we can do about it, it’s state (or Fed) law.’

You state this as if you know what you are talking about, yet it is so obvious You have no clue. Why don’t you get one? or do you prefer your blatant ignorance?

If you have something to say beside the usual recreational insults, you left it out of your comment.

Really?

That’s a lot of crap. Literally -the sewer system, not to mention the water system, streets, sidewalks, schools, etc would never be supported by the taxes obtained. This is not NYC where the property taxes are are from 6% to 45%.

Hmmm… No available housing in Redway at all.

About 800 persons who live in motel rooms, permanently.

A few “Senior Apartments” full of folks from Oakland.

If you got over $450/sq ft to spend, you got a house!

You’re running a little behind, Garberville/Redway!

I predict you should move to Rio Dell!

The people in cedar street are mainly local elders.
It is true that the feds won’t let grandma smoke a joint, and so locals do try every other avenue first.
But it is not fair to characterize the place as not housing locals.

The movie documentary Thrive people are now working on Thrive 2 the sequel finally! For those who missed Thrive (2009?), YT has it up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEV5AFFcZ-s&feature=youtu.be
The solutions towards the end are what we all crave and what our Constitution is supposed to preserve and protect.
Instead, they insist on enforcing a Global tax seeing as how we’re all doing so splendidly well. Good grief charlie brown.

~we operate as a species on a certain hertz, as in signal or channel. One old AM station…..could the 5G actually be a frequency that raises our ability to ‘THINK ” in other channels where the elite DO NOT WANT US TO GO ? Lots of snoozing/freaky people need their vibration raised up from the gutter.

On page four, paragraph two of the Protocols, it says that when Europe is under complete control, the Serpent’s agenda is finished, and Wor(l)d Domination is complete. I understand that will happen with the passing of the final chapter of the Lisbon Act in 2020. https://lewes.co.uk/forum/post/Lisbon_Treaty__2020/259326

Thanx for the link.

IDK, what you’re getting at is over my head I guess, CH.
The Documentary I posted is an old one, that is resurfacing. This time around I actually understood most of the culprits they’ve outlined. Always before, it went through one ear and straight out the other, but not anymore. This time my jaw dropped when they described the main families being the facilitators. Spot on even back then!! Most of the awakened are just now understanding there’s a main puppet controller on the top. People like AJ led most to believe that the buck stops with those 3 families, so the people would go off on their merry way instead of researching further like this video did. I can’t wait to see the sequel. I wonder if they’ll spill the beans that others have been spilling lately? I hope so! The world needs to know.
