Wanted Suspect in Wife’s Death Nabbed

 Edward Hughes

Edward Hughes, whose wife’s decomposing body was located in her home, was captured last night by a law enforcement team.

Information from the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Department’s Facebook page:

With assistance from the Pelican Bay Crisis Response Team, California Highway Patrol (Crescent City), the DNSO has safely taken Edward Hughes into custody. We would also like to thank the numerous calls and reports from our community regarding his whereabouts and other public safety organizations that assisted with this matter.

Sheriff Apperson said “I’m incredibly impressed by the diligence demonstrated from our investigations unit while relentlessly maintaining focus on this case.” He went on to say that “We will continue to work collaboratively with the Del Norte County District Attorneys Office and the California Department of Justice as we move forward. I’d also like to thank our local fire departments, Search & Rescue and Ambulance crews for being accessible while this high risk arrest was carried out.”

I know he’s presumed innocent until proven guilty, but his personal actions are not boding well if or when he is brought to the court of law………failure to meet with law enforcement after agreeing to meet with them, disconnecting phone, hiding out from authorities, having to be tracked down and arrested……….

Now waiting to see if he will be charged with a crime.

If you look on the booking sheet for Del Norte county jail he has been charged with pc 187 murder

the Romans affixed the dead body of the murder victim to the murderer to drag around until they died….the stench of rotting flesh plus the maggots would have been horrendous but effective.

Sounds about right. I always thought the death penalty was getting off light. Especially when it’s someone the victim loved that does the crime, this girl gave him her heart and he allegedly took her life, f him.

That’s gross. Like the farmers method if dogs kill chickens. Wheels of human justice grind slower. And we bury or cremate quicker. If justice was not based on who you know and how much money you have things might be better here. In the case at hand though, I’m glad the husband is in custody because he looks good for this. Her immediate family will need support and love. If that happened to my daughter the perpetrator would be better off in custody. Del Norte county is not blessed with resources, they did great with an awful task.

There are many examples of people wrongly accused, and it’s important to let the justice system play out, even though it’s not perfect. The husband is always the first one suspected, and many overzealous prosecutors have stuck the blame falsely on the husband or father because of lazy or low quality police work.

For we who grew up tall and proud
In the shadow of the mushroom cloud
Convinced our voices can’t be heard
We just want to scream it louder and louder and louder

What the hell we fighting for?
Ah just surrender and it won’t hurt at all
You just got time to say your prayers
Eh, while your waiting for the hammer to fall

He should have known you can only get away with murder in Humboldt, places like del Norte and Mendocino will track you down no matter how far you run. Mendocino tracked down eight murders that scattered across the Nation and Mexico, but Humboldt can’t catch a murder that stays in the same house or three decades. I doubt they had any more evidence in this case than they did with ones here. In Humboldt you have to turn yourself in with a body part in a bag or you will never get caught.

~you know what i find odd about these present times? Is, i remember grabbing a newspaper at least weekly and always being amazed that the Sheriff, or Police Depts., always “got their man”.

It could be as simple as a purse snatcher at the Eureka mall parking lot, or a murder in Bridgeville . . . by the next week’s edition, the wrongdoer had been apprehended.

All the while the dreadful “Devil’s Playground” played on.

That’s so weird, I was just talking about that case. I wonder where that guy is now. Clearly, he thought he’d be arrested sooner too. They had no idea who did that, it was pre dna, and he took women who were not missed which is a whole separate kind of sadness. There are people like that man all over, maybe in your bed. Maybe across the street, or in your college class. Parents, look into the partners of your children. They are sometimes the last to know that they are in love with a killer. We all need to take better care. Evil acts could be prevented sometimes. I believe that.

That’s crazy, this woman has been through enough! Let her RIP away from him. How morbid & sadistic, disgusting. That would satisfy you… insanely disrespectful to her corpse.

It’s unfortunate they didn’t work “relentlessly” or “take calls & reports from the community” about her missing to prevent her death.

Good comment j, so true it’s internationally recognized now thanks to Netflix. The shame of freeloading off the taxpayers in this county has had its covers pulled.

This whole thing is so sad. That man is less than half the size he was in November 2018. This is what 3 to 4 months of using has done to him. Drugs are bad people. In recovery they tell you that your disease progresses even if you aren’t using and this is proof. If you’d have seen these guys after they had their baby and how full of life and how proud they were… I hope they never let him out. This is all right down the road from me from my kids. People I know, people we cared about. It’s awful knowing what people are capable of. Be kind and appriciate peace when you have it because it gets taken away quickly. To be clear there are a lot of unsolved and untried murders here. Dante Romanose-Jones, Cris Dimon, just to name a few, and numerous missing.

It is crazy what hard drugs do to abusers. A close friend was caught up for years, eventually chasing ghosts through dryer ducts and electrical outlets. The ghosts were not there, but damage to the house and his brain was. Thank goodness he eventually got off it.

Thanks for your insight, hope the neighborhood only moves forward with positivity from here on out.

Do you know the way to Pelican Bay?
Put a hundred down and buy some tar,
You’ll make lots of friends in Pelican Bay.
In a week, maybe two, they’ll make you a porn-star.
Weeks turn into years, how slow they will pass,
Your old dreams will turn to dust and then blow away.
And all the porn-stars that never were
Are taking your tar and pumping your ______.
