[UPDATE 4:33 p.m.] Road Watch Across the Emerald Counties Today

As storms continue to buffet the Emerald Counties expect more rain, snow in the mountains, gusty winds, and even hail.

Below we’ve compiled the impact on the roads. We’ll update as new information comes in.

UPDATES are in bold green letters.

Major Highways–Here’s What We Know:

At this time, most major roadways are open in Del Norte, Humboldt, Mendocino and Trinity Counties.

• • Interstate 5: Open north of Redding to the Oregon border
  • Hwy 1:  As of 4:33 p.m, Caltrans reports Hwy 1 is fully closed, “Northbound / Southbound… From Lighthouse Rd to Garcia River Due to Flooding. No estimated time for reopening of closure.”
  • Hwy 3: Open
  • Hwy 20: Closed between Williams and Hwy 16. Hwy 16 is also closed.
  • Hwy 36: Chains Required from the junction with Hwy 3 to Platina.
  • Hwy 96: Open
  • Hwy 101:Open but as of 10:32 a.m. traffic is backing up just north of the Trees of Mystery after large branches fell in the roadway.
  • HWY 162 (Covelo Road): As of 9:57 a.m., CHP Traffic Incident Information Page reports rock slide blocking at mile marker 8.5 (About 8 and a half miles west of 101.)
  • Hwy 169: Open
  • Hwy 199: Open

  • Hwy 211: Open (Check out how high the Eel River is on the Fernbridge live cam)
  • Hwy 254 (Avenue of the Giants): Closed Near Holmes Flat Road because of flooding.
  • Hwy 255: Open
  • Hwy 271: Open with the exception of a scheduled closure .03 miles south of McCoy Creek just south of Piercy.
  • Hwy 299: Chains required from three miles east of Douglas City to six miles west of Redding.

Humboldt County Roads:

Here is what we know from yesterday. We’ll update when more info comes through.

• Bair Road, between Redwood Valley and Hoopa – open but narrow in spots due to high snow berms, carry chains
• Berta Road–Flooded
• Butler Valley Road – as of 10:36 a.m., open to emergency vehicles only.
• Cannibal Island Road: Flooded as of 1:39 p.m.
• Ishi-Pishi Road— Open as of 1:39 p.m.
• Jack Shaw Road – closed due to downed trees
• Kneeland Road, mile marker 26.36 –  closed due to downed trees
• Lewis Avenue–Flooded
• Maple Creek Road, from Anderson Ranch to Butler Valley Road – lines tangled in trees, AT&T is notified.
• McCann Ferry: as of 10:36 a.m., shut down due to hazardous river conditions.
• Mountain View Road – closed due to low hanging wires and trees
• Petrolia, at Lincoln Street and Mattole Road – closed due to downed tree and power lines, you can get around using Front Street but take it slow.
