[UPDATE 7:22 a.m.] Hwy 20 ‘Closed Due to Roadway Being Washed Out in Several Places,’ Says CHP
For travelers planning on heading over Hwy 20 today, be alert that currently the major east west route through Lake County is closed between Hwy 53 just east of Clear Lake and E Street in Williams.
The California Highway Patrol issued an alert stating, “SR 20 between SR 53 in Lake County to SR 20 at E St in Colusa County is closed due to roadway being washed out in several places.”
UPDATE 7:22 a.m.: State Route 16 is also closed. Caltrans District 1 posted on Facebook,
Alert for north coast travelers heading to the Sacramento area:
SR 20 is closed in Colusa County between SR 16 and Williams due to flooding and possible road damage. SR 16, a common alternate route, is also closed in Colusa County at this time.
In order to assist District 3 with their closures, we will be closing SR 20 to eastbound traffic at SR 53 in Lake County.

Thanks for the info!
I drove down hiway 20 yesterday, and there was an amazing amount of runoff. Williams could well end up with flooding, and, this part of highway 20 was closed for the same reason 2 years ago.
Caltrans installed rip-rap on all the ditches, but pieces of wood and debris get into the culverts and cause flooding!
Be careful if you decide to travel! It’s a good day to stay home and keep the fire burning!
DONATE TO REDHEADED BLACKBELT! It’s easy!
🕯Thank you Kym for the update.
What is an alternate route? If your heading that way?
North = if 36 isn’t closed or 299 but a lot of semi trucks on 20 yesterday because the of the required chains and snow there. Otherwise you have to go south of Ukiah to get over to 5 or 80.
I am needing to get to Reno, so which way would I go if 53 to Williams is closed to flooding -I planned to go all the way on the 20 until I hit the 80 I believe. So if this is not possible than I need to know an easier way but not go all out of my way cuz from Reno I am heading onto Winnemuca to Idaho. Any feedback is helpful, I plan on leaving later today.
36 all the way to Susanville and 395 to Reno? snowy. Get to Southern Idaho via Klamath Falls and Burns, Ore? Snowy and deslolate. I-5, or 97 to the Columbia, to Spokane, to Northern ID…
Butts Canyon Road out of Middletown would get you there.
Right now I think the only way is down 101 through Petaluma, although that connecting highway, I think it’s 128, is flooded with potential to open at 12pm today. There’s 299 to 5 but I’m heading to Sacramento this weekend and as long as the Petaluma connector is open then that’s the way. If not, then it’s through San Rafael and then NE to Sac-town.
semi big flood just east of Esparanto 02/13. Lots of fields with water collecting right up to the roadway towards Williams also.
