Annie & Mary Trail Connectivity Project Survey Still Open for Public Input Until Friday

This is a press release from the City of Arcata:

Arcata, CA –The City of Arcata would like to remind community members that the Annie and Mary Trail Connectivity Project survey will be open for public input until Friday, February 15.

The Annie and Mary Trail Connectivity Project will create a new trail that will connect Sunset Avenue/Larson Park to Valley West and the Aldergrove Industrial Park via West End Road.

The project team includes knowledgeable engineers and planners from the City of Arcata, the Redwood Community Action Agency, TrailPeople and SHN who are committed to ensuring robust public participation throughout the planning process.

Community feedback will enable the City to seek funds for the design and construction of the new trail and make neighborhood safety improvements for all who walk, run, bike and used other non-motorized modes of transportation in the project area.

All interested community members are encouraged to share their input and ideas by taking this short, two-to five minute survey which can be found in both English and Spanish at cityofarcata.org.

For more information, visit cityofarcata.org or call 707-825-2128.

Well the trail seems like I good idea, but it’s really to bad.
My Fantasy.
A tourist train from arcata to Korbel or Blue Lake.
Let’s not let Politics And money Get in the way of my fantasy.

A train just like the one I rode as a child.
I remember getting on the train in Blue lake going to Arcata. It was theater on wheels.
The train would have the sheriffs and money box. Around a slow bend in the road, train robbers would have a shot out and board the train. Then steal the money or get caught. I don’t exactly remember all the details. It was the best time ever. I know kids these days don’t like western movies. But we could have a twist. Like aliens attack train and fortnight figures fight them off or big foot sightings. I could have a blast with setting up scenarios. It’s like gambling, but I bet the train idea would be better than another trail.
Use the Theater group in Blue lake, with the casino etc. work together to bring fun tourism to town. The back car can offer recreational steal head beer and Buds to tourist and if ya get to lit up get locked up in the town jail house. If only I was a better writer, this story might be fun to read. Good day 🚞🚃🚃🚃🚃🚋

I hope that this project embeds a high level of historical interpretation along its route. The 1896 bridge collapse tragedy, Spanking Fury, Camp Curtis, and obviously a coordinated interpretation of Wiyot culture would be a good starting place. The route is already designated a California Historical Landmark.

i just read that survery. they want to make a trail where there are roads with bike lanes. wtf?
currently you can cross the freeway on sunset and go north on lk blvd, or you can go down to alliance, left up to spear. both connect to west end road at the roundabout and from there you go up to the business park. both routes have bike lanes.

why would they spend money on buying land and building a trail for a town with 25mph speed limits on flat ground? im confused.

i say there’s better places to put money than this.
