On Monday, February 11, 2019 at approximately 3:01 hours CCFR was dispatched to 3420 Kings Valley Rd for a fully involved structure fire. Upon dispatch, Ft. Dick Fire Protection District and Pelican Bay Fire were requested mutual aid. The first arriving unit from Crescent City Fire & Rescue (CCFR) found the primary residence well involved and the fire had begun extending into the structure on the East side exposure. Winds were gusty and erratic causing heat, flames and smoke to be blown to the residence to the West. The fire was also actively threatening a second residence on the West side of the primary structure. The first arriving unit was able to confirm with bystanders that all the occupants had been evacuated from both the primary and adjacent structures. None of the involved parties were asking for medical attention.

Fort Dick Fire Department (FDFD) Engine 84 arrived and positioned an attack line between the primary fire structure and the East exposure residence, and they were able to apply water into the carport area and reduce the impact of the heat, smoke and flames spreading to the residence. Two CCFR engines arrived, and one crew made an interior attack into the East residence to extinguish the spreading fire and confirm all occupants were out. The other crew positioned additional lines to assist with exterior fire attack. The crews from Pelican Bay State Prison (E-49) and a second Engine (E-82) from FDFD arrived and were assigned to support operations and begin knocking down the fire in the primary structure. Red Cross was notified to assist with housing for the occupants of the primary structure.

No injuries were sustained by the occupant, the responding volunteer firefighters from CCFR and FDFD or the responding members of Pelican Bay Prison Fire Department. The primary residence affected by fire was a total loss, as was a vehicle parked next to it. The residence to the East suffered exterior damage, and damage from fire and smoke to its interior. Also damaged was a vehicle parked between the two residences. The primary residence was so heavily damaged that it yielded very little to be able to investigate. The occupant had stated to firefighters that he woke up to fire and smoke coming from the area of his television and electronics, and quickly evacuated his wife and dog, then got one vehicle moved. He had heard some popping noises coming from the area of the electronics prior to the fire occurring. Residents of the park had noted some “brownout-like” power fluctuations going on during the day prior.

Crescent City Fire & Rescue would like to thank Fort Dick Fire Department and Pelican Bay Fire Department for their assistance on this fire.

Crescent City Fire & Rescue would like to remind our community that smoke detectors that are properly installed and maintained will help alert occupants to rapidly spreading smoke and give you time to get out. If residents notice strange behavior in their electrical appliances or lights, they should unplug or turn off the device, and contact a repair service, electrician, or their utility company for investigation of the issue.

Bad ass. Unplug all devices during brown outs and blackouts to prevent power surge ignitions, save your equipment, safe first responders

Is that their shoulder patch? That’s awesome. A muscled firefighter on a surfboard riding a wave while holding an axe, with the lighthouse and redwoods in the background. Looks like a romance novel cover.

In Hawaii, firefighters are also the top watermen of the islands. They are legends and the most respected people of all. Rightfully so.

i was really suspicious of arson for a fully engulfed fire on a rainy night, until i read trailer park.
those units are made of kindling and gasoline i think. they surely burn fast.
