Saturday Marked 10-Year-Anniversary of Bob the Builder’s Disappearance on or near Murder Mountain, Says Family Member

Bobby Tennison Robert tennisonOn Monday, January 19*, 2009, Robert Tennison, AKA Bob the Builder, from Keyes in Stanislaus County was last seen near Alderpoint. His mother told the Humboldt Beacon that Tennison was supposed to have come home on Sunday, January 25.

He never did.

Neither he nor his body were ever found. According to a distant family member, the last place he was seen was at a home on Murder Mountain, an area near Alderpoint also known as Rancho Sequoia. Though there are other reports that he was last seen in Alderpoint or in Garberville.

“Today marks the 10th anniversary he was last seen,”  the family member told us. “The family is just at a loss as to what to do, all they want is to bring his body home…This family is desperate for answers.”

The series Murder Mountain has stirred up talk about Tennison and his disappearance. The family member is hoping that with recent events where one possible suspect committed suicide and another is in jail that someone is “willing to spill some tea.”

In 2009, Tennison had friends in the Alderpoint area. He would go to there occasionally and reportedly do carpenter jobs. The family member said that the last time Tennison arrived in the area he came up with his son and his son’s cousin. They allegedly sold a dirt bike to Zach Harrison, who has since been arrested for the shooting death of Robert Holtsclaw. Tennison’s son and his son’s cousin went home but Tennison was planning to return later by bus.

According to the family member, Zach Harrison and his brother Chris Harrison were likely some of the last to see Tennison alive.  “The Harrison boys did say they had seen him that night and but Bobby took some acid and wandered off… .” The family member doesn’t believe that happened.
“Bobby didn’t do drugs like that…pot at best.”

According to a newspaper article in the Humboldt Beacon written in the fall of 2009, Robert Tennison had distinctive eyes. “His left eye is blue and his right eye is green,” the article said. He had “a broken tooth in the front, and a tattoo of a woman’s face on his abdomen.”

By now, there are many stories about what might have happened. If anyone has any information, please contact the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office at (707) 445-7251.

*Note February 21, 2020: the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office has the date Bobby most likely disappeared as January  21, 2009.

🕯So they don’t know if he’s dead or if just took off?

He’s been missing since 2009 no contact with family. It has been confirmed he was murdered. We need someone who was involved or in the know of what happened that night to say where his remains are.

Chris left the police a letter telling where the remains are… did the police even go look??

We don’t know we can’t get any answers. The family hasn’t been able to read Chris’s suicide note. I can’t even find anything on his suicide or why he committed suicide.

I was told Chris committed suicide because Zach was trying to blackmail him into helping him hide from the cops for Holtzclaw’s murder. Story goes that Zach wanted Chris to hide him and said if you don’t I will tell them everything about the murder you committed and where his body is. For some reason I remember hearing that on the night Chris killed Tennison they were frying on acid.

How much of this is actually true, I don’t know and I don’t want to know.

The circumstances in his suicide are his families private business. If they wanted it public they would have shared it. Our family is not necessarily entitled to that information.

I am aware of the note although never allowed to read it. They have went twice to try and locate Bobby but the note did not leave specific location.

Can’t really be sure of anything. I know there is a note. His family was allowed a copy. Trinity county provided it to them. Humboldt County said it’s evidence and therefore we cannot have a copy.

I can’t imagine the pain this family feels. He’s not just a missing person he’s somebody’s world and it has crashed to the ground. Somebody knows something it’s a small town and I know people in it talk. Please if anyone knows anything let us know.

They just need to bring him home for closure. Imagine not knowing where someone you live so much is. Somebody knows something please imagine if it was one of your family members. There will be no justice so maybe there can be some peace.

Maybe they were witnesses? There are always teens wanting to be grown ups & get mixed up in scenes at young ages here & there are always older creeps willing to supply the fun & take advantage of these young folks, especially pretty girls. More than likely one of the brothers could have been dating them despite the legal difference.

if the Harrison’s said he took some drugs and wandered of never to be seen again, unfortunately I believe you have some form of a answer of what happened. I wish you the best with the closure, but trying to retrieve evidence in rural Humboldt without direct info from a source is very difficult especially after a decade. Our hsco and DA historically don’t work well with civilians but your best bet might be trying to put pressure on them for info from Zach as rumor has it he was in a talkative mood for a minute.

Yes we know he was a victim of foul play but still would like to locate him. As for HSCO I have had both negative and positive experiences with them.

Horrible.

It must be bittersweet for the family of Bob to have had this show come about.

On one hand it brings up the trauma, on the other hand it revives hope for new information.

I hope the show provides a route for someone to provide new info, if nothing else.

I havnt seen the show, but it seemed like comments were mixed on this site.

Also, I remember the Zach Harrison stories on Kyms site, when he was evading law enforcement.

Lots of people were cheering him on. Yuck. Glad he got busted.

His druggie buddies and a family member were the only people “cheering ” him on, thanks for another example of how you are more of a troll than a local Brian.

Actually, if you look back, I was the ONE asking why the officer hadn’t taken a shot at murder-suspect–fleeing-from-police Zach.

There was an officer who talked to him “over the river”. I just didn’t understand why the cop didn’t try to shoot him there.

And so you are affirming, with your comment, that I was right when I said people were cheering him on.

I didn’t know they were his druggie buddies and family, Mike, because you and me hang out in different circles, you know.

But if you have any more info, call a lawyer or the PD. I dont want to know.

innocent until proven guilty. you are a piece of sh…t.

how about we just shoot at you next time. we have courts for a reason. even if there is a witness we still have to find the reason (sometimes (sometimes not) people have good reasons for shooting people). cops arent supposed to be judges

Can one get away with murder in this county? Apparently that is so. In the past there was a young lady (girl) who disappeared and was never found. Devastating for the families. There may be more!!

One can get away with murder anywhere. Statistically speaking. Google it.
(Percent of murders that remain unsolved)
Hint…around 50%

Next story should be about the two females that went missing and man believed to be the killer, is still walking around Humboldt, possibly Fortuna.

There is obviously a lot that happens in that area and a lot that gets brushed under the rug so to speak. All our family is asking is if any of the rumors are true and someone knows what happened that night and where his remains truly are have a heart, reach out anonymously if you aren’t comfortable and tell the sheriff where exactly to search. We need to bring him home. It’s been long enough. Losing Bobby was hard and finding out the suspected killer committed suicide was like being victimized all over. You always envision a day in court, a chance to confront him and then that oportunity is taken from you too. Then you hang your Hope on a note no one will let you see or read just to be let down again.

Bobby was my big brother. My dad’s son. My dad can not even talk about his memories let alone his disappearance. I lost my 11 year old son a couple of years before my brother went missing, this was a devastating blow to have already lost one then another. Our family has suffered and just want closure. My nephews deserve to have a place to go and mourn their father. At this point it is not about justice! Please, it is about closure, and peace of knowing we could bring him home and lay him to rest. He was a father, a son, a brother and dear friend and loved by an entire community. We just want to bring him home. We just want to be able to have peace. Please if anyone has any information, come forward. Contact someone…anyone. He has a family that has cried, worried, prayed, and suffered for the past 10 years. Please!

My heart aches for you and your family. I pray you find closure soon.
Maybe the archaeologers across the state can be funded by the communities to do flyovers with their fancy equipment that can see through the depths of the earth? Don’t ever give up hope, new technology is coming out all the time. May a peace calm your soul as your words spike dedication towards closure.

When Bobby first disappeared there was no sense of urgency when dealing with the initial officer. FBI was brought in approximately 4yrs after he disappeared. Another 5yrs and the murderer committed suicide….left a note. Been over a year and we still have not retrieved his remains. I know HCSO has searched twice but I don’t understand why we can’t get a bit more push behind the effort to find him.
