Having your property stolen…definitely bad, bad news. BUT, getting it back unexpectedly is great news and today several people are getting back their property thanks to one of the previously unsung heroes at the Eureka Police Department.

According to a post on the Eureka Police Department’s Facebook page, EPD evidence Technician, Carly Balk, “has been busy this morning returning stolen property to the rightful owners!”

After a January 9 arrest where two suspects were found with stolen items, Balk “has helped link at least 5 additional cases” to those arrested.  “Carly has matched fingerprints left at a scene and has contacted multiple victims of theft, resulting in the return of their belongings,” the post says.

Thanks, Carly!

Well, at least the stuff wasn’t purchased by employees for cheap. Now if the EPD would actually start citing people for running stop signs and riding bikes on the sidewalk. THAT would be something.

That is almost verbatim what they told me, crooks left very clear, distinct prints all over my window when breaking in. “Not like t.v., no resources, judge will just let them back out in hours anyways, only in special homicide cases do we call in an expert to fingerprint “.

Ahhh more on the Humboldt County Police Soap opera. Let’s keep spotlighting these tax thieves and giving dramaticized reinforcement via social media to sway public opinion in allowing personally invasive investigative techniques. Search and rescue to justify buying military grade equipment designed for war zones to “save people” when it gets used more for invading the people’s rights, but as long as we all see it did good once in a soap opera style presentation via social media, then it’s ok. Now there’s some over paid staff member in the county who has a job running fingerprints, to return stolen property. the expense of a staff member and the equipment and technological infrastructure costs does not match the need to return some basic stolen items. Stop looking at the light show people and watch what’s actually going on here…

Yes some of what government does is “soap opera” feel good PR.

Ms. Balk is however a very new addition to the police and a great new resource to have here locally.

That’s my stuff. This girl was so happy to do her job that day. My wife was so happy that she got all of her jewelry back. Some things were not found. But this made our day! I’m so glad they were able to pin this on those two addicts. A really shitty situation got a lot better. Thank you so much for your work.
