Two Semi Crash Last Night
On January, 9, 2019 at approximately 2115 hours, Michael Petel was traveling in [a 1996 Kenworth] southbound on US-199 north of Hardscrabble Creek Bridge. [Ben Field] was traveling in [a 2012 Peterbilt] northbound on US-199 north of Hardscrabble Creek Bridge. For reasons still under investigation, [Petel] allowed [his vehicle] to travel over the double yellow lines and into the northbound lane where the front …collided with the left rear side of [the Peterbilt]’s trailer/axle. After the initial impact, [the Kenworth] traveled in a south-westerly direction where the front of…collided with the dirt/rock ascending embankment. As a result of the crash, [both trucks] began to leak oil and Diesel onto the roadway spreading onto the dirt/rock shoulder. [Petel] suffered minor injuries as a result of this crash and was transported by Del Norte Ambulance to Sutter Coast Hospital. [Field] also suffered minor injuries as a result of this crash, but was not transported.
Gasquet Fire and Cal-trans assisted with scene. California Auto Image towed V-1 and V-2. Controlled traffic was utilized on scene with minimal delays to traffic on US-199.

Ouch – driver incompetence.
