[UPDATE 3:40 p.m.] Redway Bluffs Closed (Hopefully, Only Temporarily, But…)

road closedRedway Bluffs are currently closed from Evergreen Road to Bear Canyon, reported Denton Carrick, an area road supervisor for Humboldt County Public Works at 12:05 p.m. “We think we’ll have them open in an hour,” he said.

However, he said, if the Bluffs keep sliding, the road will have to be closed at least overnight.

UPDATE 3:40 p.m.: The road is open however, the CHP Incident Page shows that drivers are calling to report the bluffs are sliding again.  A phone call to KMUD News reveals callers to the newsroom report having rocks and debris fall as they travel.

I caught a glimpse of the small sign “Road Closed Ahead.” Cty Roads had placed across from CHP office wjen itwas already too late to turn around. I wish they could have a larger sign in this instance since I’m sure plenty of folks missed it and went all the way to Evergreen before finding the road closed.
I was half expecting it as I noticed on my trip from GBV to Redway earlier I should probably travel 101 on my return with the falling rocks.
Happy winter and Love that rain!

I remember that sliding in 1969, that was 49 years ago. How much money has the all knowing government spent on that bluff from the time the road was put in originally? Make pebbles out of it or close it down already.

Thank you Kym!

Thank you Kym for your article yesterday morning! The rock slide happened right in front of my car yesterday, and thanks to your article I was already driving slow and looking at the bluff when it started. I was able to slam on my breaks and avoid the slide and getting rear by the guy behind me that clearly did not read your article before driving through. My lil yota and myself thank you immensely!
