[UPDATE 9 p.m.: Clear ] Chains Required on 299 Near Shasta County Line

Caltrans QuickMap shows the areas where chains are required as of 2:11. Click the link for the most recent information.

At 1:39 p.m. chains became required on vehicles 2.25 miles west of the Trinity Shasta County Line until 21 miles west of Redding roughly over the Buckhorn Summit area.

However, Caltrans Traffic cam as of 2:09 p.m. does not show a snowy vista.

But if you plan to head north on I-5…that’s a different story.

UPDATE 9 p.m.: Caltrans QuickMap doesn’t show chain control on Hwy 299 at this time.

I’m sorry but I’ve got to ask, do you have a app that alerts you every time there’s a story posted or do you just continually check the website to be in the first three to respond?

If you are new to using chains, practice a few times in fron of your house. They tricky if you aren’t experienced.
