[UPDATE 9 p.m.: Clear ] Chains Required on 299 Near Shasta County Line
At 1:39 p.m. chains became required on vehicles 2.25 miles west of the Trinity Shasta County Line until 21 miles west of Redding roughly over the Buckhorn Summit area.
However, Caltrans Traffic cam as of 2:09 p.m. does not show a snowy vista.
But if you plan to head north on I-5…that’s a different story.
UPDATE 9 p.m.: Caltrans QuickMap doesn’t show chain control on Hwy 299 at this time.

Thanks for the info Kym,I-5 looks bad.
I’m sorry but I’ve got to ask, do you have a app that alerts you every time there’s a story posted or do you just continually check the website to be in the first three to respond?
You can sign up to get email alerts to any new post that comes out. It’s on the side bar if you have a computer and under all the articles and Twitter and Contact us on a mobile (keep scrolling for quite a bit.)
If you are new to using chains, practice a few times in fron of your house. They tricky if you aren’t experienced.
