Fatal Accident Near Hyampom

tc reportPress release from the California Highway Patrol:

On 12-28-2018, at approximately 1935 hours, Party #1 was driving Vehicle #1 (Dodge Ram) west on Hyampom Rd .1 miles east of Drinkwater Ranch Rd, at an unknown speed. While entering a right hand curve in the road, P-1 allowed the Ram to travel onto the right shoulder a short distance before he reacted by turning the Ram back to the left. The Ram veered back onto the road and crossed both lanes before crossing the south dirt shoulder and vaulting over the embankment. The Ram became airborne and descended for approximately 80′ before hitting the dirt/rock bed of Hayfork Creek with its front end. V-1 began to roll after the impact and, due to the fact Party #1 was not wearing his seatbelt, he was ejected from the Ram into the creek. As a result of being ejected into the flowing creek, Party #1 was carried down stream approximately half of a mile.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene of the collision and soon found the Ram unoccupied. An extensive search for Party #1 was initiated and lasted into the night. However, P-1 was not immediately located and the search was called off until daylight hours. At approximately 1045 hrs the next morning, Party #1 was found deceased and submerged in Hayfork Creek by CHP air unit H-16. Trinity County Sheriffs Coroner was subsequently notified and responded to the scene thereafter.

Party-1 had been drinking prior to the collision but it is not known if whether he was impaired at the time of the collision. Toxicology tests are pending.

Sad. RIP. Condolences to loved ones.

Please be safe and smart when traveling every day and especially this New Year’s Eve. Our roads are dangerous even under the best of conditions. Love to all.

Once again, Stupidity rears its Fugly Head!!! If the drunken fool had been wearing his seat belt there might have been a chance of him surviving the wreck!!! As it was he had 0 % chance without the damned seatbelt not to mention the Bbooze in him as well!!!

Yes, he should have been wearing his seat belt.
And yes, he had apparently been drinking.
But last I heard Dan, he is not guilty of DUI until proven so.

Me, I’m gonna stay home tonight and off the road, and I hope all the members of my local VFD get to stay home tonight as well.

Stay safe tonight neighbors.

I hope we will find out what the tox report says from the presumed autopsy. In any case, it is fortunate that he didn’t take innocent people out with him or cripple someone for life. Condolences to family and friends.

Don’t care if he was wearing his seat belt or not. I don’t think it would have saved him anyway. Just sorry that he paid with his life. Condolences to his family and friends. Thank you CHP and other emergency responders.

Being startled and over correcting is so common even in the best of circumstances. A split second to think about how to fix the problem is always good. RIP .

Is there an update to who the driver that died in this wreck is? I have a few friends that live and or work out there and I’m just praying it’s not one of them. Any update is appreciated. Thank you. But regardless….RIP and my condolences to his family and loved ones.
