Slide Closes Hwy 299
Hwy 299 is closed near Valdor Road west of Weaverville about 10 miles. At approximately 7:30 p.m., rocks and mud began slipping across Hwy 299. By 7:45 a tree was down in the westbound lane.
Caltrans District 2 says the road is closed with no estimated time of reopening. Caltrans posted about 9 p.m. on Facebook that the road was “blocked approximately 3.4 miles west of Junction City due to a slide.”

Debris at the slide is piled higher than even the tallest tow trucks and completely across the entire road. It’s probably going to take a long time to clear. There was still more coming down as cars were turning around. Had to take the 3 to 36 to 101 to get back to Humboldt from Redding tonight. I wouldn’t plan on getting through any time soon.
Yikes!
And so it begins!
