About 6:55 p.m., a man was reported to be the lobby of an Arcata motel in the 4900 block of Valley West Boulevard with a bleeding head wound. Soon after, law enforcement arrived on the scene and arrested a male without incident for battering the victim.

The victim was taken to the hospital.

Boy, it is rough up there in Humboldt! Stabbings, shootings, beatings. People shot on the highway.

I`ve spent quite a bit of time in N. Idaho hear Sandpoint and can`t help but notice the contrast between the 2 areas. Very rarely is there a crime of violence. When it happens, it`s usually an unfortunate domestic violence situation. Home invasion is nearly non-existent. A couple of years ago some ex-con from Washington state pulled a home invasion and got sprayed with bear spray for his effort and the whole business was quite an exotic event.

What`s the difference? Any ideas or opinions? Everyone in N. ID is armed to the teeth. You can have any gun you want, carry it anyplace you want open or concealed. You don`t have to beg permission from Big Nanny to have the means to protect yourself. While this does make some difference in lessening crime, it`s the the entire explanation.

I’ve heard nothing but good about Sandpoint, Idaho from my sister.

Bear spray, hmmm. Not a bad idea to have on hand. That’s what was sprayed on the peacefully assembled during Occupy at U.C. Davis.

My opinions as to the difference between here and several other states – we’ve been spoiled living here in the land of milk and honey -along with the wrong-headed belief that what worked in the past will work in the future. Also, the mid-country state people, i believe, don’t move as often. Ranches and homes are passed down to the next generation – a feeling of pride that is less to be seen here.

I can’t help but agree with you. Calif likes to highly regulate our right to defend ourselves mixed with its lack of suitable punishment for crime. Several times a week I catch on camera Eureka zombies checking door handles on cars up and down the street. They know that if they get caught, nothing happens to them… Even if they are caught inside your damn car.
Lots of people around here like to say this type lunacy is happening all across the country and not just here. They want you to feel this is just the new norm. Yet nearly everywhere I’ve been outside of California is remarkable cleaner and lower crime levels than Humboldt County. It’s sad, I was born here and really love the beauty this place has to offer, but dang, has it sure been on a massive down hill spiral these last 10-15 years.

Makes one question, if the public serpents can (unlawfully) tax a specific part of the population -without the consent of the governed – WHY didn’t they do it sooner than January 2016? Measure Z -for safety, AND “Essential Necessities” -cough, cough, was the match that ignited the fire.

Maybe more homogeny in the demographics plays a role with Sandpoint compared to the mixed stew of this area.

I don’t know where you’re living, but all my Humboldt neighbors are armed to the teeth. Drug prohibition breeds violence. It did when it was alcohol and it does now for other drugs. Guess they don’t have a huge illicit economy in the boonies in ID.

Drugs breed violence. Alcohol bred violence. Prohibition organized criminals but actually common place violence went down without neighborhood bars.

“In the long term, violent crime in the United States has been in decline since colonial times. The homicide rate has been estimated to be over 30 per 100,000 people in 1700, dropping to under 20 by 1800, and to under 10 by 1900.[6]

After World War II, crime rates increased in the United States, peaking from the 1970s to the early 1990s. Violent crime nearly quadrupled between 1960 and its peak in 1991. Property crime more than doubled over the same period. Since the 1990s, however, crime in the United States has declined steadily.”

Yeah, it’s just like old times in the ’50’s when people were shot and stabbed or injured in car accidents or bar fights or family gatherings. I bet that if someone cared to look at the ’50’s and compare it with now while adjusting for population, what we see in Humboldt is just about the same, only not drug and cash fueled. I’ve seen people shot and hit with cars and private fights taken out in public. I don’t know anyone in Humboldt County that doesn’t own at least one gun. You all forget that with our modern communication networks every time a mosquito farts we hear about it in seconds. I can tell you of epic battles in Garberville in the ’50’s that the newspapers or the radio never heard about. They usually involved fists, broken beer bottle, knives, guns, autos and whatever else was handy.

onrust,

That sounds just like i would imagine Garberville was . . . rough-n-ready.

It’s almost kinder to shoot someone with a gun than with bear spray… I’ve gotten a dab of that on me before. That stuff is like napalm.

Valley West seems to claim a lot of crime incidents. I wonder why.

Heroin mostly, and no shortage of methamphetamine either. Arcata was much nicer when it was full of wealthy young pot growers. Now I wouldn’t go there for any reason but to take classes at the university.

I wouldn’t even go then! Its a trash fire! Easier and better instruction online at other accredited schools like Oregon State or Lake Mendo Community.

John Ripper, I do agree with your stated open gun laws. I don’t believe they would work in an over populated California, filled with illegal immigrants and felons. Population and legal weed are most reasons for the violence in Humblodt. Anyone wants to argue, go ahead! I am born and raised in Humblodt and legalized weed brought in tons of crime and violence!!!

I agree with what you say Shawn, and will add the effects of a non-violent silent weapon for silent wars – TAXATION w/out representation.

Absolutely, large amounts of money and drugs have always breeded violence, throughout history. There’s no way to refute that fact.. Although I would imagine if there were actually penalties for people that committed crimes, there would be less crimes committed. It’s going to come to a big head here in the next few years as people stockpile of cash run dry, but after that hopefully things will mellow back out again.

The good – BREAKING NEWS!!! Congress Demands The Arrest and Prosecution of Hillary
Clinton, Obama and FBI Probe on YouTube https://youtu.be/k4H0xUG35XY

The bad – 0-cus-d7-fbf1fd44190d06f6f3f3ad7310b850a6.jpg The military will be invoking Emergency Martial Law after Christmas. The authorization for this action is based on two existing laws: The Insurrection Act of 1807 was put into place to control a violent uprising against an authority or government. The International Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977 was passed to protect against threats to the economy or the people in the US of A. Do not be afraid. We simply ask that you be prepared for any resulting interruption of services by having: extra food – extra water – pet food – cash (meds). Why? Should tensions arise, it is important that you and your family have the ability to stay out of the way. The military has sworn an oath of allegiance to our President and to keeping all citizens of the USA safe. Anyone doubting the validity and purpose of our teams should find General Flynn’s “digital soldiers” video.

68k sealed indictments – thousands know what is occurring.

The ugly – i don’t believe we’ll experience the ugly here in Humboldt. I just don’t.

I don’t necessarily agree with what you usually say, but, what happened today? Did your mind suddenly go off its rails? Are you drinking too much of the conspiracy kool-aid? And now what you see on youtube qualifies as news? Every jail house lawyer and idiot du jour can post on youtube and the web in general can post on youtube. Why hell, I can do it myself. Just because someone can make it up and put it on the net does not mean it is anywhere near true or rational.

I lived in Sagle, Idaho, south of Sand Point, this side of the “long bridge”. There is no crime there to speak of, as the local folks will NOT put up with that shit, not for a second! But then comes the longest, coldest winter I could not handle… People tend to be a product of their environment, cold and bitter! It is however, a fabulous place to summer! Now if you really want to put roots down in a crime free area, Kooskia, Idaho, north of Grangeville is a place where you can leave your wallet or purse on the console of your rig, with the keys in the ignition. It will sit there until the whole thing rusts and rots into the ground. The reason? Because you WILL be shot, if you fuck with someones stuff. Armed and polite, as they say…
