EPD Asks Public’s Help in Locating Suspect

This is a press release from the Eureka Police Department. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

Fernando Joel CALDERONOn 12/06/2018 at about 12:55 am, an Officer with the Eureka Police Department observed a purple PT Cruiser traveling east on 18th Street, approaching Harrison Avenue. As the PT Cruiser passed the Officer, the Officer recognized the driver of the PT Cruiser as Fernando Joel CALDERON (36 years old). Calderon has an active felony warrant for revocation of probation and officers have been attempting to locate him.

The Officer pulled in behind the PT Cruiser, as it turned north on Harrison Ave. Calderon immediately turned off all lighting equipment and sped away at a high rate of speed. A pursuit was initiated. The PT Cruiser turned onto Myrtle Ave toward the downtown area. The PT Cruiser reached speeds in excess of 90 MPH.

As the PT Cruiser reached R Street, it turned the wrong way (west) on 5th Street at which time officers terminated the pursuit, due to public safety concerns. Officers searched the vicinity, but were unable to re-locate the PT Cruiser.

Based on the Officer’s positive identification of Calderon, the incident has been submitted to the Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office requesting the issuance of an arrest warrant for Calderon for the evading violation.

The Eureka Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in locating Calderon. Calderon’s actions and apparent disregard for the safety of the community poses an immediate threat to the public.

The Eureka Police Department considers Calderon dangerous and advises citizens not to try and apprehend him themselves.

Anyone with information regarding Calderon’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Eureka Police Department’s Problem Oriented Policing Unit at 707-441-4373.

They need a helicopter like other city’s, if you run the helicopter is dispatched .Then when they are caught they should tack on the price of dispatching the chopper to the fines.Eliminates the need to abort the chase, hard to hide from the light in the sky

Geez! On the day that they issue a press release about the purchase of their new military-style assault, best that we don’t encourage them to have more surveillance goodies. Lol.

EPD has 56 police. It would seem, it would seem, that a radio call to the other 54 for back-up just might get the job done.
